My puppy really needs a bath, but I can't make it to the pet store for dog shampoo! Alternatives?

My pup may have fleas and I want to take care of it immediately. I can't get him dog shampoo because the pet store's too far, and our vet is closed. What's soemthing I can get at our local Walgreens that's gentle and kills fleas? I heard that Dawn works but it doesn't sound to convincing. My puppy really needs a bath, but I can't make it to the pet store for dog shampoo! Alternatives?
...My puppy really needs a bath, but I can't make it to the pet store for dog shampoo! Alternatives?
Dawn -- original Dawn -- is what is often used on animals and birds that have been caught in oil spills. It breaks down oil; I don't know about flea-killing.

I've had good luck with Murphy's Original Oil Soap: it's vegetable-based and is more gentle than one would think. Again, the dog looks and smells great, but I'm not sure it kills fleas.

Fleas are not hard to identify: you can see them walking on the dog's skin between the hairs, usually on the belly and the inside of the thighs. If you catch one, drop it into a dish of soapy water and when you're done, flush the water away.

If you don't see any fleas, rub some water on the ';dirt'; you see on the puppy's belly; if it turns the water reddish, it's flea feces. The red is digested blood.

You may as well wait for a trip to a pet shop: if the puppy has fleas, there are fleas in your house, too, and washing the dog won't stop the problem: you have to treat the entire house, the dog and the yard, and a good pet shop will have separate products for each job.

Good luck.
Dawn does work but if you use too much it can be somewhat harsh on a puppy's skin...head and shoulders shampoo seems to work well, it has zinc in it that can do a number on the fleas just let it soak for five to ten minutes then rinse thoroughly
Dawn does work. It's made to be gentle on the ocean animals, so it's fine for dogs. We've given our dogs baths in it a bunch of times and it's great.
baby shampoo. Don't use your shampoo or if you have kids their. It needs to be baby shampoo. Your shampoo will make him itchy. and sometimes kill them.
If the pup may have fleas, regular shampoo isn't going to do the trick. The dog needs a flea bath. See if Walgreen's has flea bath dip shampoo.
Children's or baby shampoo works but if it isn't tearless shampoo keep it out of his eyes. Johnson's baby shampoo works the best.
dish soap laundry detergent human shampoo Just don't let him lick it
Won't do much good anyway - you need monthly applications of Frontline or Advantage to keep fleas off your dog.
Johnsons Original baby smapoo. Gentle on eyes as water.
PUT YOUR SAMPOO ON YOUR PUP
Walgreen's sells pet shampoo.
walgreens has a pet section where they sell pet dog shampoo for fleas and ticks.
Rinse well and keep it out of his eyes.
Use your shampoo

What can I use for dog shampoo?

We just got a new dog who smells like smoke. We can't get to the store until tomorrow, but I don't like breathing in the smoke smell. Is there anything else I can use, like baby shampoo, for right now? What can I use for dog shampoo?
i don't see anything wrong with using baby shampoo for now or if you are worried about allergies, you can just wash him first with water. Check shampoo first for one to suit your needs :)What can I use for dog shampoo?
In an emergency situation, yes, but dilute it half and half with water.
Dish washing liquid can be used too. Our vet recommend it for us to help with fleas once and it did help. Its very mild and smells good too.
Baby shampoo will work great! We use Johnson %26amp; Johnson's in a pinch as well.

Bathe that pup!

Good job getting it out of an unhealthy, smoke-filled environment, as well.
Johnson baby shampoo works good
no regular shampoo is going to work. use any shampoo, mix a small amount of bleach and a small amount of peroxide with it and wash with that. don't get it in the eyes of course. if you're using small amounts of that stuff, it won't hurt them.
Baby shampoo is fine, on a ONE TIME only basis.
I've always found oatmeal shampoo to work the best unless you need a medicated shampoo for fleas/ticks
Baby shampoo is an acceptable alternative. Don't use regular adult shampoo, though...and don't use dish soap (which would be the worst possible thing to use because it's designed to strip oils from whatever it's used on and would dry out your dogs skin)
I'm a groomer and I use people shampoo on dogs all the time. Dilute it 1/2 shampoo to 1/2 water. Baby shampoo and dish soaps are not high on my list of what I like to use.
you can buy puppy shampoo at the pet shop there different one i bought mine wich washes him, gives him nice smell and also get rid off fleas and ticks n stuff lol.
Baby shampoo would be OK.

What dog shampoo would you recommend?

The last stuff we used made him itchy. What dog shampoo would you recommend?
I like the oatmeal shampoos. I use then on my boxer. Also try adding 1tbp of the oil in the pet section at walmart. Helps relieve dry itchy flaky skin. Or you can use Salmon caps or samon oil (found in the vitamin section). Hope this helps. What dog shampoo would you recommend?
WHAT I STRONGLY RECOMMEND IS THAT YOU DO NOT USE HARTZ, SERGEANTS, OR ANY HUMAN SHAMPOO'S MY VET STATED THAT THEY CAN BE TOXIC TO ANIMALS ,CAN CAUSE SEVERE SKIN IRRITATIONS AND MORE. USE ORGANIC SHAMPOO AND CALL YOUR LOCAL VET TO RECOMMEND U SOMETHING AS WELL.
Try something hypoallergenic or something with oatmeal.

But oatmeal shampoo can be thick and if you leave any on the skin it will cause itching.

The last place shampoo usually stays on is where the legs meet the body and underneath.
A basic oatmeal shampoo. No need to get fancy or expensive. Oatmeal shampoos maintain moisture in the skin while others could dry it out. Make sure you don't bathe him more than once a month. If he has fleas try adding eucalyptus oil in the bath water and using flea drops once he has dried.
Would recommend using the oatmeal shampoo, also you can give your pet about 1/3 teaspoon of the liquid CORN oil shortening 1 x daily for the dry skin. This will cause his coat to be beautiful and also supply oil to its skin.
use your shampoo on the dog its cheaper and he/her smells good .if he/her itchy then use some thing for dandruff.

  • What is the best dog shampoo?

my dog stinks really bad, even if i just put my hand on her head, i have to go and wash my hands because it smells so bad. what is the best scented dog shampoo for great danes? What is the best dog shampoo?
I use use the follwing products for my dogs, the Deodorizing product works great for in between baths

http://www.3dogsandme.com/ShoppingCart/T鈥?/a>What is the best dog shampoo?
I prefer using 'Perfect Coat Natural Oatmeal Shampoo'.
Get one that is listed as ';soap-free'; so it doesn't wash off the flea preventative.
Don't worry, my dog is the exact same thing! I have a Yorkie puppy and he stinks so bad that I have to wash him twice a week, but that doesn't even work! I used to use Groomax Lavender on him and a couple of hours after his bath, he stank again. A couple of weeks ago, I brought my puppy to a groomer to shave and bath him and Scamp smelled so good! We didn't have to wash him for two whole weeks because his scent lasted and lasted! [He lives outside, too] Well, after the scent went away, he stank again and we had to give him more bathes. I missed his old scent which smelled like flowers, and I couldn't take his stinky odor anymore so my mom drove me to the groomers to ask about their shampoo and the groomer told us all about the shampoo, so I went searching for the shampoo on the internet and I found it. It's called Wild Thing and the types of shampoo varieties are almost endless! My groomer used the type called All Out Purple on his clients, but I've decided to try out the All Out Blue, Animal Therapy, or Wild Thang. I love the shampoo and I hope you can give it a try! If it'll work on a long-haired dog that stays outside, I'm sure it can work on a short-haired dog!

I'm not sure if the shampoo company sells its products in stores so I'll provide a site that you can order the shampoo from. I like how you can buy a big bottle or a tiny bottle to try the scents. The prices are pretty cheap for such a great product! A 2oz. bottle sells for $1.99 and a 16oz. bottle sells for $9.99! Well, best of luck to you and your pooch

How often should I wash my 3 month old pug with dog shampoo?

he stinks, and Im not sure if washing him too much with dog or baby shampoo will irritate his skin. So how often should I wash him and with what kind of shampoo? ThanksHow often should I wash my 3 month old pug with dog shampoo?
I used to though that washing him too much would irritate his skin but it doesn't. I asked my vet, it depends on the type of shampoo i have. I use the kind i get from Petsmart's groomax. It has a variety of scents and it will keep your pet smelling fresh for a whole month (literally!!!) and your pet's skin doesn't get irritated at ALL! Here's the link to the shampoo:

http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_d鈥?/a>How often should I wash my 3 month old pug with dog shampoo?
just get puppy shampoo and wash him once a month. just watch and see if his skin gets irritated and cut back if you notice a problem. you could also ask a local vet and see what they suggest.
You should never washed your pet with shampoo made for humans, as it could irritate their skin. go to your local pet store and buy a shampoo made for him. Only give him a bath once a month so his skin does'nt dry out. They should have some kind of detangle spray like they do for cats that you can use in between baths that keeps them smelling clean.
If he is dirty, you can wash him with puppy shampoo, and it will not irritate his skin. I wouldn't consider bathing him more than every couple of weeks because it will strip his skin of its natural oils. If a couple of baths do not help the smell, there may be a cause for the odor that requires vet attention.
The rule is once a month. Unless he gets into something stinky, and then it's ok. Washing a dog too much strips their coat of much needed oils. It can dry out their skin and cause dandruff and itching. If he stinks, when you do bath him, use a deodorizing shampoo. If he still stinks in between baths, you can get animal wipes. They are scented bath wipes, they don't require water. You just take one out of the package, wipe him down, and thats it. It's kind of like a big baby wipe. Good Luck.
The best thing to do is buy shampoo specially made for puppies.
wash him once a month if you do it more it is bad he needs the oil in his skin
I have a 6 year old pug. The vet told me to give her a bath no more than once ever 7 days. If you clean the wrinkles of the nose and there belly with baby shampoo or baby wipes every day it cuts down on the smell. Also if the pug gets to hot or excited it will cause it to smell worse. Pugs should not be kept outside due to their small breathing passage way if you live in hot climates or humid weather. I only bathe my pug with malosab from the vet. (not sure I spelled that correct)
Only ever bathe him 4 times per YEAR with puppy shampoo. If he still smells, buy 'dry shampoo' from your vet clinic. You just shake the dry shampoo on his fur and wipe it off with a damp cloth. Bathing him in water, shampoo etc. will irritate his skin and will just make his fur and skin unhealthy.
i would not wash my puppy unless absolutely necessary-- if you must use puppy shampoo as you said, but know this-- all puppies have ';puppy dandruff'; it's like the regular dander dogs all have but just more of it and more obvious, this is normal. It's just like with a human baby- and they are born with the ';newborn skin'; and then they go thru that peely stage, and they have ';infant skin'; then it changes again, at about 5 months- humans-and it's soft smooth baby skin, the first year for humans and dogs, the skin changes a lot. I only wash my dog when he has gotten into something really stinky-- we live on 500 acres in the country- so he finds stinky things to roll in from time to time-- if it's bad enough he gets a bath with dog shampoo--- TIP use about 10-20% of what you think you should use, or you will be rinsing forever, and likely not get it all out- leading to more dryness for the skin - not good. On a regular basis to keep my black lab boy sleek and shiny are doggie wipes -- there are tons of them--- the best ones-- I can't remember the exact name bu they are made by 3M - and they have aloe in them-- they work better than a bath i think and no dryness- just the opposite -- aloe leaves coat and skin beautiful-- and odors gone- but no heavy perfumes-- just my 2 cents!
You should not give him a bath because he is just a puppy, and maybe while your giving him a bath, soap will go into him ears and stsrt an infection. you can give him a normal bath in 1 year, but you can also wipe him with bath wipes from petco.

    Dog shampoo?

what is a good shampoo for a maltese thats almost 1 and they sell at petco or petmart or walmart plz give me the name of the shampooDog shampoo?
I personally use Tropiclean. My vet sells it, and I've also seen it at PetCo and a few dog boutiques.

    http://www.tropiclean.net/index.php

    .Dog shampoo?
I use Dungness Ranch Pet Resort puppy shampoo.(you can also use it for adult dogs. )

    Available at petco and petsmart.

It works great for my dog!
I also vote for Tropiclean. Our groomer uses it, it's gentle, safe, and smells good.
I shampoo my pyrs and my Aussie with Dawn Liquid dish soap. It's really gentle. -!-

    Dog Shampoo???

Is the dog shampoo at the dollar store the same as whats in the store?? I use hartz tearless puppy shampoo on my 9 month old chihuahua maltese Is tha $1 dog shampoo? Im not being cheap but If I can get the same quality from a $5 shampoo in $1 shampoo why not switch.Dog Shampoo???
I would say that the dollar store stuff is just as good as long as your dog doesn't have any skin issues. Our cocker has such itchy skin that we switched to a more expensive oatmeal shampoo and it works much better.Dog Shampoo???
Would you buy your shampoo at the dollar store? Come on, don't be cheap! You can get a good dog shampoo for like not even 5 dollars at Target or Wal-Mart! Dollar store stuff doesn't work all the time! You could be washing your dog with plain water and other stuff that is in the bottle for all you know!! Just buy a better brand of dog shampoo!
you should try a flea shampoo its better for the dog and keeps fleas at bay.

would you buy a $1 shampoo for your hair.
I would not use anything put out by Hartz. They test all their products on animals and I have seen some of the results that have ended up killing the animals
As long as it cleans your dog,and the dog doesn't have an allergic reaction then why not buy it?

They way overcharge for dog stuff in general.

I can buy a dog rope toy at the dollar store for $1.I go to petsmart and they charge $6 for the same type and size.
I dont like dog stuff at the dollor store its never a garentee that it will work because its cheap.
personally i DO NOT trust dollar stores everything they sell is cheezy or not made right. if you love your dog i would buy some from Petco ir Petsmart or your vet!!

    http://www.petco.com/product/102444/Lamb鈥?/a>

    this is good shampoo!!
Have you hear the saying you get what you pay for...
I dont think its good but as long as its not store brand then your good.
I hgihly recommend Adams Flea and tick products the work wonders on fleas and tick and doesn't have the hash chemical smell the other shamppoos and stuff do.
would you buy something for yourself, that you'd put on you for $1, I wouldn't
I would be hesitant to purchase dog shampoo from the dollar store. Some dogs have dry skin and this could give your dog a rash.
Most likely yes. It's like that with people shampoo as well.
I'm really not sure. All i can tell you is take your dollar shampoo and bring it to the store with you to compare exact ingredients with the $5.

A random note here. I bath my dog in the tub and just got back from the vet today because he got water in his ear and it caused an infection. She told me to swap his ears afterwards with a little alcohol on a cotton swap to dry up any moisture! Just FYI!
depends on what your happy with it cost me $35.00 just for my dogs shampoo
Hartz scares me. Maybe their shampoo is ok, but I heard that their flea/tick stuff will give a dog nervous system problems. So yeah, use reg. shampoo only from them!!!

I do know that Hartz has some good whitening shampoo that would work great for maltese's. My mom has a teacup maltese and uses their whitening stuff. Molly looks beautimous!
I don't think it really matters which shampoo you use on the dog, as long as you don't get soap in your dog's eyes/nose. You also didn't specify what dollar store you're referring to or the brand name of the shampoo, but chances are if the bottle says ';Dog Shampoo,'; it's as good to use on a dog as any other shampoo.

I'd also like to add that though someone said to use dish soap, I wouldn't recommend it. It will remove too much of the natural oils from your dog's skin and fur because it is too harsh, and could cause irritation.
as long as you are happy with the product i don't see any reason why you couldn't buy the cheap stuff.
No! Dont buy dog shampoo!!!! because sometimes the shampoo can have stuff in it that makes your dogs skin and fur shiny but trust me i have tried it before and it makes my hair greacy and frissy and stackie!!!!!! DONT USE DOG SHAMPOO!!!
I wouldnt trust anything from the dollar store, made in China. Try regular Dawn dish soap or baby shampoo, both are safe to use.
That will work fine. Its like a baby shampoo. I delute all my shampoos.. Make sure that you rince the dog well.
Hartz in general isn't a good brand. You should get something with oatmeal and aloe to sooth the skin. But if you like what you have it's probably the same stuff but a smaller bottle.

    Dog shampoo?

What is a good kind of shampoo for a dog with sensitive skin?Dog shampoo?
The best thing you can do is seek advice from your vet, they will advise on the best products as something you choose may irritate the skin.Dog shampoo?
Very gentle puppy shampoos, an oatmeal-based one or a hypo-allergenic shampoo is best. Don't use one with any flea/tick medication and try not to bathe your dog more than once every few months if possible.

You can find some great products at the urls below. Best of luck.
Try a shampoo with oatmeal. This is a very soothing ingredient. I use Vet Solutions Oatmeal and Aloe shampoo on my dogs. It keeps my dogs' coats shiny and smelling great, and their skin is never itchy afterwords. I should also mention that my Yorkie gets a bath once a week because they have a coat that is more like human hair than fur and gets oily faster than other breeds, and he nor my other dog have ever had any reactions to the oatmeal shampoo.
There are many good shampoos for dogs with sensitive skin...My first questions is...if it allergies???

I groom dogs for a living...if a dog has sensitive skin, I usually try to find out what the cause it...

    1) Pearls au Lait Shampoo (expensive but smells like vanilla) and is made with milk...only good if dog is not allergic

    2) Most ';premium'; brands made with oatmeal...it is a natureal ';soother';...My personal preference is ';Tropiclean'; with oatmeal and tea tree oil - they call it medicated shampoo...many of my clients are now buying it for in between groomings so they can bathe their dog...Tropiclean also makes a medicated ';rinse'; (conditioner) which really helps.

    3) Hypo-allergenic shampoo....which has NO soap what so ever (read the label).... cleans but does not irritate...that is my last option since most are good but don't clean as well as the others and don't smell really good.

    Hope this helps.
Earthbath is a good shampoo, it's all natural and there's different kinds for different problems.

You should get one with aloe and oatmeal in it. Oatmeal calms and soothes the itchiness.

You could also give your dog a warm bath and put plain oatmeal in the water. Let him soak in it. This should really releive his skin since you will be using 100% oatmeal. Do this once a week and he should get better!

Try this advice and hopefully it helps!
A shampoo with oatmeal would be good for a dog with sensitive skin.

I have a dog who is allergic to dust mites (now he's on bi-weekly allergen shots) and I've taken him to a doggy dermatologist who recommends the following shampoos:

I have a Golden Retriever with curly hair, What is a good name of shampoo that I can use to try making the fur straight?Dog Shampoo?
Ask a dog groomer to see what shampoo that they recommend.Dog Shampoo?
Mane and Tail shampoo and conditioner, works great on long hair but won't straighten it. Sorry... don't think there is a good way to do that with a shampoo.

Ask a groomer for a suggestion or maybe go to a local dog show and talk to the groomers there ... they are easily approached and most will gladly share their knowledge with a spectator.
Hi,There is nothing what's gonna make your dog's hair straight !( besides things you really dont wanna do to your dog)

You could bring him/her to the groomer and get him shaved.

LOL He's not going to be completely naked, just his/her hair is gonna be short... so you wont see curls ! try it out !

I do it on my lab/G Retriever mix ;).

My dog shed's so much, black dog-white tiles...lol

So it also helps you out with the cleaning !

    http://images.google.com/images?hl=en%26amp;q=鈥?/a>
Ask a groomer, or read a book. I always use Mink oil on my longhair dachshunds. It smells great and is healthy for their hair.

Also some of the other dog owners I know straighten their dogs hair with a straightener.
Maybe you should take it to the groomer and have it cut if you don't like it curly.. I don't think any shampoo will change it to straight.. Good luck : )
It's not about the shampoo....it's about the grooming. You can blow it out straight just like people do...if you really want to put that much work into it.
You can not make it straight it is thier natrual hair.

    Dog shampoo?

I have a sylkie terrior, and ive been using my shampoo and conditioner to wash him, but someone told me your not sopose to wash dogs with human shampoo, so i was curiouse. what would be the best dog shampoo if i cant use mine?Dog shampoo?
No, you should not use human shampoo for dogs - it strips the oil from their coats and dries their skin.

I show one of my dogs and use what was recommended to me by a number of groomers and handlers - HyLite dog shampoo. It has no soap, does not dry out the coat or skin, leaves the fur shiny and beautiful. It can be bought at some vet's and online - a bit expensive, but goes a long way, you don't use much.

It makes an enormous difference in the dog's coat, believe me.Dog shampoo?
Dog and human skin have different pH levels, shampoo for humans is not formulated for dogs and can dry their skin out or cause reactions.

I've tried a few different types of pet shampoos, but my favorite by far has to be Earthbath. They are all natural, biodegradable, and smell great. I like the Oatmeal and Aloe Vera formula because my dogs tend to have dry skin.
OK, don't tell anyone I said this but you can actually use human shampoo and conditioner on a dog who has ';hair'; versus fur. I know there is all this BS out there about PH Balance etc... but in my many years of showing dogs and rescuing dogs and working in an animal hospital I have never seen any dog's skin fall off or any ill side effects of people using their shampoo on their dogs. Diet, nutrition, genetics, grooming tools, grooming time, and not overly bathing your dog really play more of a role than the type of shampoo you use.

So with that being said, I use Bio-Groom aloe %26amp; oatmeal shampoo %26amp; conditioner on some of my dogs not that I think it's the best but you can buy it by the gallon and I have 7 dogs and I get fosters all the time. One of my dogs gets conditioned with Garnier Nutrisse human Conditioner because it's like she oozes oil from her coat and that or Dawn dish detergent is the only thing that keeps her squeeky clean. On my Afghan I use Pet Este Japanese Charcoal shampoo %26amp; conditioner and her coat is ';like butta''; :)
Whoever told you that was correct. Human shampoo can damage doggies skin.

Any brand of dog shampoo should be sufficiant. There are many brands geared towards different problems or desired results. If your dog has no problems, I would suggest a simple oatmeal shampoo formula. It is good for the skin and coat, and smells wonderful
A neighbour of mine had a Poodle mix. They used to wash her with their shampoo, and she had horrible, bleeding sores all over her body, and all her hair fell out. It was heartbreaking.

I wouldn't risk it. Go to the vet and get recommendations.

EDIT: Oh, and by the way, I use an Oatmeal shampoo on both my dogs. Snowy used to have horrible skin conditions (she's a Bichon, and it comes with the breed) and the shampoo calmed it! It was amazing! I recommend it, as long as you don't get the cheap stuff. Check the ingredients.
This is true the PH level in human shampoo is to high and dries the dogs skin

Any dog shampoo would be fine.

    Now for the conditioner

Put about 1 inch of Downy in a gallon jug 9 I use cleaned milk jug) fill teh rest with water and use as a conditioner. I was taught this in Dog grooming school and it works great
Yes it is true the chemicals are so strong resulting in rashes and bumbs.

Ask your vet my dogs use a vet required shampoo because all the dog shampoos from the store are garbage
I use and oatmeal based shampoo on all my dogs just because it helps to keep their skin calm and also gives them a beautiful coat
Human shampoo can irritate their skin and its probably best to use any shampoo that you find in the pet isle at walmart or your pet store.
That's what they say, but I've never seen anything wrong w/using our shampoo and cond. on our Maltese. She has a beautiful long silky coat....no skin problems.
they have tons i would use morsirizoir dog shampoo
it's fine if you use your own shampoo.

    Dog shampoo?

Whats the best brand of dog shampoo for dogs? I have a huskey puppy and shes got a strange odor to her. Is this natural for her breed ? Even after shes had a bath?Dog shampoo?
Dogs, like people, have different odors. it's part of nature, but if it really bothers you there are plenty of shampoos and conditioners for dogs that have strong scents made especially for stinky dogs. You may want to use both shampoo and conditioner and wash your dog more frequently, like once a week or every other week to stave off the strange scent.Dog shampoo?
This may sound a little strange to you, but I have a boston terrier and a english bulldog. My dogs are both housedogs and the english bulldog gets an odor alot quicker than my boston, so I found out by using head and shoulders, he smells better longer, and it also keeps their pet dander down. I guess because it is actually for dandruff. But, it also smells great....works for my animal babies, and keeps them smelling alot better....good luck...
I found this shampoo online Top Performance Sea Breeze Shampoo really does a great job and leaves a terrific smell. I found it at www.doggonegoodstuff.com. They seem to have a large selection of shampoo. I not sure if one brand is better than the other. I think as long as quality ingrediants are used that should be main consideration.

    Dog shampoo?

Why does everyone want ';alternatives'; to do shampoo (such as wanting to use dish soap or human shampoo.) instead of just buying dog shampoo?

Dog shampoo isn't that expensive and a bottle will last a long time. In my opinion, it's one of the basic things you should have in your house if you have a dog.

And it's not hard to get. Pretty much any place that sells dog food also sells dog shampoo. You can buy it from the grocery store, Walmart, any petstore, and your vet's office.Dog shampoo?
One way people economize money is by purchasing

mane and tail shampoo, you can use that on humans and pets.

I don't know why people want to use dish soap on dogs. Do

they use dish soap on themselves.???? sheeez.Dog shampoo?
Human shampoos are a different pH than canine shampoos so they are not terribly good to use as an alternative. There are alternatives for specific reasons but normally dog shampoo is relatively cheap even compared to a good quality human one. I normally us a good quality dog shampoo or the Purina Horse shampoos -- most things that can be put on a horse can be used on dogs and I liked the way that some of the Purina horse shampoos left the coats as well as their used to be one with a mild but good insecticide in it -- pyrethrines I think - that I had good luck with as well. Also there are instances when special shampoos are needed -- with dilute coats sometimes that are sensitive, there are several human shampoos that are better to use on them but those are specifics -- also you can use Palmolive dish liquid on small pups and if you leave it once suds up for a few minutes, it will kill the existing fleas on them without being a problem for the pups. That is something I know I and many people (dog handlers/breeders/rescuers) have done for years when a pup is infested with fleas and is too young or stressed to have insecticides of any kind put on them. It isn't necessarily any good as a regular shampoo but most of these are specific to specific needs and regular dog shampoos are best in the long run, and, as you pointed out, they are readily available and not expensive at all.

add: Oh right about the Dawn and oil on a coat but again, that is an episodic specific instance and not long term. I usually prefer the biogroom products myself but most any decent brank is fine as long as it is for a dog -- and someone mentioned not bathing often and that is true as well. Usually a health dog will not smell bad unless they have been out playing in stinky stuff and even then, a quick wipe down with a listerine mix usually fixes that.
One simple rule: if you cannot provide basic pet supplies such as shampoo, you shouldn't own a pet.
I don't get it either. Dish soap is ok for an emergency or if the dog is covered in grease even for sever flea infestations, but not for every time you wash the dog. I've had the same bottle of shampoo here for 6 months and it's only 1/2 empty.

It's one of the most inexpensive things you can buy for your dog, or in my case dogs!
I don't know, I wouldn't feel safe using an 'alternative' on my dog, I'd be afraid that it would hurt their skin. Maybe some people are just too lazy to get out an buy it when they really need it.

We always keep a bottle in store at our house of doggy shampoo. They hate the baths, but they sure do stinky! :)
I've used dawn for emergency flea infestations, if a dog was covered in oil that would be another reason to use it I suppose, but if you paid attention in chemistry, you will know that all soaps can break down oil (kind of the point of soap actually) so unless it's REALLY bad any regular dog shampoo will get oil off a short coated dog.

I couldn't imagine using human shampoos or dish soap or even regular soap on my dogs. One has bad dandruff after baths and the other has very dry skin, she's a fawn doberman and their skin is extremely sensitive and often very dry. I only bathe my dogs if they have rolled in something or have a VERY bad doggy smell. I haven't bathed any of them since my wreck, we had food in the car from my favorite fast food restaurant and before they got thrown out food ended up covering all of us, I took a shower, but didn't think about the food being on the dogs until a few days later when I noticed a REALLY funky smell lol. I only bathed my golden about twice a year and he never had a doggy smell, he usually smelled worse after a bath anyway, I hate wet dog smell... I bathed him rarely because it was such a pain, he was hard to get wet and then his hair stuck to you and was almost impossible to get off.

My girl now breaks out after baths, no matter the shampoo so I usually just leave her alone, and my boy gets even more dandruff so I dont' bathe either of them unless they really stink. Even mud has been easier to get off of them when it was dry, on short haired dogs it just brushes off and long haired dogs you can comb it out easily, but when it's wet it just gets stickier and spreads to make the coat even dirtier....

I like Nova Pearls dog shampoo. I have been told since I was little that human shampoo is way to harsh on dogs and have seen the itchiness and redness and swelling from using it so I never have. Even a $2 dog shampoo from walmart is better for most dogs than even the most expensive human shampoo....

It's hard to believe so many people are too lazy to buy a dog shampoo.
Good question unless it's just laziness. Not wanting to spend the money on yet another product for your dog. Doesn't make sense to me, you'll still be spending extra money on the item used to shampoo your dog.

I have to agree with you 100%
Some places (target, walmart, grocery store) have cheap dog shampoo, usually cheaper then dish soap, or shampoo we would use. Personally i prefer ';Bobbi panter'; dog shampoo for my baby :). I don't understand why someone would put dish soap on their dog, is the dog a dish? Do you eat off your dog? No. Thus he should be washed with proper ';soap';. I compleatly agree :D
Very true, all those people who use everything from Dawn to baby shampoo have no idea how they are drying out their dog's skin, stripping the fur of oils and downright causing caustic internal injuries if the stuff goes down the dog's throat.

The best shampoo I have found, and which a lot of trainers and show people use on their dogs is HyLite - a bit pricy, but lasts a long time and is non-soap based. Leaves the dog's coat soft and just gorgeous - worth the price.
I had no idea people did that! I have to use a certain shampoo for my dog because she is prone to dermatitis. She's a German Shepherd.

I love her so much, and even though she is always getting dirty, whether it be from mud [it rains here a lot] or from rolling in her own crap in the backyard, I love giving her a bath because I love to see her clean white fur. It sparkles! Plus, I get to hear all the comments about how beautiful she is and how soft her fur is.

    I love her so much.
The only reason I would use Dawn (and probably only Dawn) is if the animal was covered in oil or an oil-based substance as they use that to clean off animals in oil spills. Though I have heard it works for heavy flea infestations. I only bathe my dogs probably 1-2 times a year max as most dogs get bathed way too often. Usually just a quick hose down is more than sufficient. I like Lambert Kay's Old Reliable Oatmeal shampoo. Pleasant smelling and very mild. I've had the same bottle for nearly 3 years!
Dish soap? On dogs? Hmm....more than a little odd, if you ask me. Maybe the owners don't want another bottle to keep track of, though that's no excuse to not getting proper dog shampoo.
I agree- it is so stupid- we have a dog with sensitive skin and we need special shampoo for him. Even tho it is more expensive sometimes it is still less than 10 dollars and will last about 4 months. sometimes more. I guess people just want to be cheap and dont care about the health of the dog
Don't think that the quality of dogs shampoo would be as good as human shampoo.

I have often thought of using horse mane and tail conditioner on my own hair. When I put on my horses tail it separates the strands and makes it straight and shiny.

I would use any shampoo to wash my dog when she rolled in fox poo. Very occasionally I would use a dog shampoo if I found fleas and wanted to get rid of them quickly but other wise I use human shampoo I'm sure it's fine.

Didn't know about the difference in Ph though.

My friend has a Japanese Sphritser ( Something like that) and she NEVER washes her she is glistening white all the time no matter what the weather and smell beautiful!
well, when i had my dog, i usually used just normal shampoo. I didn't wash her that often, so her coat wasn't affected.I will never do it again, though.

People are just too lazy to go out and buy it. when i get mynew pup, it will be top on my list of supplies.

I haven't heard of people using dish soap! that must be horrible on the dog's coat!

Thanks for the info! I will certainly use it.

    Dog Shampoo?

I have read on here that the ';Hertz'; brand of flea control causes medical problems, what about the Shampoo?

I use the ';Hertz'; flea and tick shampoo with oatmeal on my pooches is that also bad?

Any suggestions on a safe and effective shampoo for my doggies (one of them has sensitive skin)

    I have Pit Bull Mixes

    Thanks!Dog Shampoo?
My Grandpa was a vet and he said we could use regular human shampoo on our dogs. They do not need their own shampoo. It has many of the same ingredients as human shampoo. Just keep it out of their eyes. I have heard that Hertz also causes issues. Use baby shampoo on your dog...Dog Shampoo?
dont use hertz anything. use a medical perscribed one. ask about it at petco or at a vet. dont risk your dog's lives.
A more effective and safer brand of flea shampoo is made by Adam's. Some pet stores and feed stores carry it. They also make a spray you can mist over your dogs before they go outside and then before they come back in. This is quite effective.
Lye works well on Pit Bulls. You're probably looking for something to remove dog and human blood for your killer's hair.
    natures specialties
I've heard a lot of things about that company. Their hamster products were never all that good and I heard a lot of people's pets dying from their products in general. Once I heard that, I never bought anything from them again because I don't feel safe with them. I never used a special dog shampoo on my pooches. I use whatever shampoo and conditioner is around the house and it dosn't bother them. If I can, I try to use Mane %26amp; Tale shampoo and conditioner. It was originally meant for horses (hence the horse logo) and apparently worked well on people too. So dogs can definately use the stuff. It's great. There's really no need for specialty shampoos though in general, it's all the same crap with a more expensive pricetag. just like pet medications. My dog got a bee sting and is allergic. all he needed was a simple shot of epinepherin. The vet charged $300 for it. So again, a lot of pet products are just overpriced human products, and I never trusted Hertz and never will.
if the shampoo hasn't caused your dogs any issues, then it should be okay. i have a rott, and i normally use johnson %26amp; johnson baby shampoo (the yellow kind) on her, because she has sensitive skin too, and it doesn't bother her. i know dog shampoo would be better, but honestly, i think dog shampoo smells like butt, and she likes the baby shampoo.
I heard Hartz was bad too. I don't know about the shampoo, but I'd stay away from it! Anything but Hartz.
My dogs have sensitive skin also; I got a tip from the groomer. Best shampoo is Selsun Blue (I think thats how you spell it). She uses it at her shop even though its a people shampoo. Now that I've been using it - no more scratching and irritated skin. Hope this helps.
We use a a vet prescribed shampoo....and sometimes the mane and tail shampoo....but dont use Hertz anything....theyve had waaaaaay to many issues in the past to trust your babies too...
    here's the best advice

all shampoos are FLEA shampoos (what!)

yep - get the suds up - and keep them on the dog

for 5 minutes - - - - and this will drown the fleas

gotta love it - yeah puppy - I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!

    have a great 2008!
Not a good idea to use any form of flea shampoo; they are not effective against fleas. Hartz brand flea products have killed many cats - don't support this company by buying ANY of their products!!

To treat fleas, get a proper treatment from a vets i.e Frontline or Revolution or Advantage/Advantix or Advocate. Don't use store-bought flea treatments, they really don't work.

    Chalice

    Dog Shampoo?

what kind of shampoo do u use on ur dogs. i use one of the hartz shampoos and have heard a lot of bad things about the brand itself so im switching. what do u use and where do u buy it.Dog Shampoo?
i use on my pup Hartz puppy shampoo the purple one.

    Never had a problem.

    i buy it at walmart.

Did your dog had problem with the shampoo? If not i wouldn`t switch,If yes i would try a different one.Dog Shampoo?
I use the White Lace shampoo, I get it at pet-smart and my chihuahua loves to bathe in this! It is really good and it also comes with a conditioner.
Paul Mitchell Shampoo for dogs. Any good Petsmart or Pets Unlimited should have it, You can order it online as well.
I use something called Fresh 'N Clean. The smell lasts for several weeks. It's available at PetCo or PetSmart.
I use Doc Ackerman's Colloidal Oatmeal Shampoo or Cloudstar Buddy Wash Lavendar Mint Shampoo and Conditioner. Both shampoos are all natural and have no drying detergents in them. If you're going to shampoo your dog frequently I would recommend getting a detergent free shampoo.

    Kim at: http://www.peaceful-organic-planet.com/n鈥?/a>
Right now, I use Tropiclean brand shampoo, 'Berry Clean' scent, and spray him with a matching Tropiclean berry spray afterwards. I buy it from a local mom and pop pet store, for about $10 for both shampoo and spray. Surprisingly, the scent lasts several days on him. :-)

Honestly, the shampoo I use has never made a difference for my dog, as he's short coated, so it's not as if his fur can be long, sleek, and shiny. ;-) Generally, I just buy whatever smells the nicest.
I use Mane and Tail and body its for humans and animals...It smells better than most dog shampoos and keeps it soft and shiny. I use aveeno body wash for him too.. You could also use baby shampoo.

Hartz is terrible burn it to hell!!! lol
I dont have a dog but I found a website.

you can go to www.petedge.com. They have fantastic, but cheap dog shampoo.

Can I give my wild turkey a bath with dog shampoo?

Her armpits are starting to reek and I can't find any turkey deodorant at petco. Can I give my wild turkey a bath with dog shampoo?
Don't use dog shampoo on birds, use Dawn detergent or J%26amp;J Baby shampoo only, and only when the birds has been contaminated by oil or petroleum based product.

Otherwise, if the bird is just ';dirty'; spray him down with plain water, or if he's suffering from itchy skin, they use an aloe vera juice %26amp; water mix.Can I give my wild turkey a bath with dog shampoo?
Absolutely not! That could be very toxic to her, making her extremely ill, or worse. Remember that anything that gets on a bird's feathers is going to end up in their system as they try to preen and clean themselves. It would also be next to impossible to be sure she is totally rinsed. You could end up causing her a lot of health problems, both from the outside and anything she might ingest. The best thing for any kind of bird or fowl to bathe in is plain water. But, if your girl is getting a bit stinky, you can dissolve some plain baking soda in some warm water. Use a clean cloth or cotton balls, (what ever works best) and give her a good soaking under those pits. And, stay away from that over the counter crap in pet stores, no matter what kind of bird or fowl you have. It's all worthless at best, dangerous in the worst case. Hope this helps and she is soon smelling much better.
Is this a joke? Why on earth would you own a wild turkey and even better why would you give it a bath? I hope this is a joke.
    ha ha

I was wondering what i can use to make my shelties fur more silky and soft and shine..I tryed many dog shampoo?

What can i use to make her coat shining and soft?I was wondering what i can use to make my shelties fur more silky and soft and shine..I tryed many dog shampoo?
    Basically lots of grooming!

As shelties have very thick coats grooming at least once a day is essential to avolid matts. To make the coats silkier simply get a squirt bottle and fill it with water. Spray it on the dogs coats before grooming. It make their fur silkier and softer and also helps stop the fur being damaged when you brush it.

Also, when you groom, brush then comb, not the other way around

Hope that helped!I was wondering what i can use to make my shelties fur more silky and soft and shine..I tryed many dog shampoo?
    lots of brushing

    natural products?

and lots of food is made to help coats

but its grain in foods that gives them the oils to make their coats shiny so i would research what types of grain you can give them that wont make them fat

    haha

    A change in diet

A couple of eggs per week

Some Fat Free Plain Yogurt - spoonful in her food

A sardine in the food 2-3 times a week

Stop shampooing so much and if you must then use a good conditioner for the hair.

    good luck

    Hottttttttttt Dogggggggggg
I just use a regular dog shampoo on my shelties, but I do comb their hair every day. One of my dogs has really silky hair, and my other dog has a more rough coat. I find that shampooing them about once a month to every 6 weeks helps, and my dogs have their own blow dryers for winter months.
May sound silly but try giving her a cup of tea. I have a whippet *****, she's 8 years old She has tea with milk %26amp; occasionally when I have visitors with sugar her coat is lovely %26amp; shiny although she has started to go grey around the muzzle now. I have a Whippet puppy who is showing signs of interest in cups so perhaps she will develop a taste for it too.
Go to revival pet products on line. I bought some shampoo and conditioner on their for my Sheltie with oatmeal in it.

Her hair shines like silk now.

    Better food.
give it a fish oil supplement. you can get it the pet store.
ask a dog groomer. they probably know better =]
I have a Blue Melre Sheltie and his coat is soft and shiny. I use Fish Oil pills 2 times a day.He thinks he is getting a treat.I also feed Solid Gold Lamb and Rice
well do i have a answer for you.Give your dog the grease you use to cook.It has vitamins a gog needs, and it will make there hair shinier and prettier than ever.it really works.also give them rice, and left over food.

Are there any substitutes for dog shampoo?

If you want more detail, my dog threw up and decided it would be nice to roll in it. She smells terrible and she also is a dog allowed on couches and beds and such, so I'm determined to wash her. I know that I can't use regular shampoo on her, is there any substitute that wouldn't dry out the skin? Are there any substitutes for dog shampoo?
i would use very DILUTED baby shampoo

dont get it in her eyes. whats not eye stinging for babies is eye stinging for dogs

hollyyAre there any substitutes for dog shampoo?
You can use regular shampoo and conditioner on your dog in a pinch like this. Just do a lot of extra rinsing, because any shampoo residue could make your dog's skin itchy. If you have any shampoos in the house that say they are for color-treated hair or that they won't strip hair color, they will be gentler on your dog's skin.

Good luck and hope your dog feels better!

ETA: I would not recommend dish soap because it has more detergent in it and could be more drying to the coat and skin that shampoo and conditioner. Whatever you use, the thorough rinsing is key to keeping from making the dog itch. When washing your dog yourself, it's often easier to dilute the shampoo and the conditioner in a large cup (like one of those plastic 32-oz cups) or a small plastic pitcher before applying it to your dog.
Oh my goodness! I bet that is a mess! You can use dish soap to wash a dog, and there shouldn't be a problem. Regular shampoo for people can be used, if you don't have dish soap. Don't use any special formula, like dandruff control, or for oily hair. This will dry her skin out. If possible, use an unscented shampoo. I wouldn't use it all the time, but once in a while isn't going to hurt your dog. Of course, it is better to use a shampoo that is formulated for dogs, but I understand your situation.

I agree with the above comments that baby shampoo can be used. It is probably better than regular shampoo, as it is gentler. If possible, use baby shampoo.
    Baby shampoo .

    Reg. human shampoo

    Diluted dish soap Dove

You can also use human conditioner just this time.

Her oils will return with in a few days.

When I groomed back a few years, I used Dove dish detergent. I diluted it way down. Only a few dogs had a problem with it. Some I used the baby shampoo on them.
A one time use of your shampoo or some dawn will be fine just make shure you dilute it down and don't get it in the dogs eyes.

A one time wash is not going to hurt your dog just don't make a habit out of it.
I agree with everyone else baby shampoo is safe my vet even told me to give my pit bull a bath with baby oatmeal body wash/shampoo because we just found out she has allergies to grass and the baby shampoo will soothe her skin so......yea baby shampoo works great hun.
You don't have dog shampoo? If you don't can't you go buy some sensitive skin dog shampoo?

    If not, use Baby Shampoo.
Dawn dish soap.It also helps keep fleas away
Johnsons baby shampoo, or just warm water.
    Baby Shampoo
I'd use baby shampoo. It won't hurt their eyes.
they have shampoo for DOGs yah know..

How to make your own dog shampoo?

I use Basic H from Shackley. It is a wetting agent. It is very mild but does a great job of getting pups clean, and never hurts their skin or eyes. It is also very economical. Or you can use no tears baby shampoo. How to make your own dog shampoo?
Don't try to be cheap. Dog's skin are not the same as a human's, and there are some things that are not good for them or can cause skin problems for them. You can get really good shampoo from either a vet or groomer that is concentrated and when you add it to water (per instructions) can last for years. If you are going to take care of your dog, do it in a responsible way.How to make your own dog shampoo?

Is it safe to use lice or dog shampoo while pregnant?

my child has gotten lice from school and i am afraid of getting it as well.Is it safe to use lice or dog shampoo while pregnant?
yes it is safe to use. I had to go through the whole routine when I was pregnant with my first child. If you are still a little unsure you can always try mayo. You put mayo all over your hair, coating all the hair. Next you put plastic wrap around the hair. Leave the mayo on for about 1 hour then wash it twice. Go through your childs hair with a metal nit comb. You probably want to use a detangling spray to make it less painful. Pull every single nit out of the hair. This can take some time, but it's worth it. I would do this every 3 or 4 days for 2 weeks, plus spray all furniture with lice spray, put all stuffed animals, pillows, etc in plastic bags for 2 weeks and wash all bedding in hot water. Lice are horrible to get rid of and the over the counter stuff really doesn't work all that well anymore. Good LuckIs it safe to use lice or dog shampoo while pregnant?
    yes it is safe
These are things as a pregnant mother you should avoid. If someone has lice let someone else take care of your children for you as far as getting rid of it. The dog shampoo as well I would avoid using because of the chemicals. Although I have had family that used Johnson's baby shampoo on their indoor dogs and it cleaned them up fine and it was ok for her to use while she was pregnant. Maybe you could try that. (NO it does not harm the dog!)
The dog shampoo I have do not use on puppies and pregnant and lactating dogs. So no to the dog shampoo. Although its applied to the dog it still gets on your hands and if you cant use it on them why get it on yourself.
    http://www.netwellness.org/question.cfm/鈥?/a>

    check this out!
I would talk to your care provider first but from what I understand it is fine so long as you're in a well ventilated area
NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely not!!! We had a family come in to the ER for lice infection when I was pregnant. They all had to be de-loused. When we called for the Nix the pharmacist told me not to go anywhere near the stuff. Let someone else do it.
  • guy myspace
  • What's the difference between dog shampoo and people shampoo?!?

don't they test normal shampoo on them anyways? What's the difference between dog shampoo and people shampoo?!?
Dog's and people have different skin, different oils, and therefore they need different products to treat them.

You're probably right about the pointlessness of testing human products on animals, but the fact is they're not allowed to put products on the market without some kind of testing, so that's why they do it.

ChaliceWhat's the difference between dog shampoo and people shampoo?!?
I have purchased shampoo for my dogs several times over

the years and the only difference to me is the price. I use

the same shampoo and creame rince on my dogs now that

I use. Their hair is beautiful. Some pet products really are

    not necessary.
People shampoo has a lot of chemicals in it that can irritate a dog's skin. It is rather unhealthy for them. Also, dog shampoos tend to be more of the tear-free variety so that it doesn't hurt when it gets into their eyes.
Dog fur is different then human hair.
I have used human shampoo on several of my dogs...and not once has it irritated their skin, and yes their hair was also beautiful and not to mention very soft. I have also used baby shampoo for their head because it is tear-free. My dogs have always smelled so nice too, mmmm-mmm panteen pro-v, herbal essence, garnier fructis.....unlike some of the nasty smelling dog shampoo they have out.
some dog shampoos have an ingredient that helps kill fleas. dawn dish liquid also kills fleas. i bathe my little puppies with coconut shampoo and they smell great . also if your dog loses hair bathe the dog with head and shoulders shampoo and the hair grows back beautifully. peggyp
There is a difference. Dogs have a different PH balance. Humans have one follical where most dogs, excluding yorkies, have four. Would you use an adult shampoo on your baby! One bottle of dog shampoo is not that expensive and goes a long way.
It's all a big marketing hype. As long as you use a ';human'; shampoo that isn't made for treated hair. I have friends that rather use pet shampoo on their own hair. It's all up to you. Some people even use dish soap on their dogs. It all works as long as you rinse it out well, no matter what you use. That's what can cause problems, so rinse well. Some dogs do have sensitive skin so you have to watch out for that, but then so do we. All the best. Suds away;^)

Is it ok to use Hartz Ultra Guard dog shampoo on kittens?

I have some of that shampoo and one of my kittens is a little smelly and I wanted to give both of them a bath but the bottle says to use it only on dogs so would it be a bad idea to use it to give them a bath it?Is it ok to use Hartz Ultra Guard dog shampoo on kittens?
Don't use that on your kittens. You will poison them. Dog flea medication is formulated differently. If you need to bathe your kittens, get either a gentle kitten shampoo or use Dawn dish liquid. The Hartz, Sergeants, and Zodiac products have caused seizures and deaths in dogs and cats and you should really throw it out before one of your pets gets sick from it. Frontline and Advantage are two effective, safe flea treatment you should look into using.

http://www.hartzvictims.org/Is it ok to use Hartz Ultra Guard dog shampoo on kittens?
Very bad idea, that stuff probably has some chemical to kill fleas and would be deadly to a cat. You can get cat shampoo or shampoo good for both dogs and cats instead. If you don't have anything else, you can use a tiny bit of Dawn dish soap.
DON'T EVER USE A DOG PRODUCT ON A CAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, some animals are highly allergic (especially cats) to Hartz products. Go buy a cat shampoo or use dawn dish washing liquid.

    I hope this helps!

Which dog shampoo is the best?

I need to find a good brand of doggie shampoo, but I have no idea how good any of the brands are. I kinda want to stay away from shampoo that smells like flowers and stuff, because it makes dogs want to roll around in what they think smells super good - mud, poop, etc. I have a Lab (or I will), if that helps.

Thanks!Which dog shampoo is the best?
I use a PH balanced oatmeal dog shampoo for sensitive skin, apparently its the best one for dogs.

It cost $20 but a little really goes a long way %26amp; lasts a long time, and most importantly my dog smells beautiful :)Which dog shampoo is the best?
Why are you thinking of bathing a lab?

They are short coated and need daily grooming to get rid of any dead hair and dander ( which causes the doggy smell) as well as stimulate their skin to enable them to have a good coat and be in condition.

The more you bathe the more you strip the natural oils out of their skin and coat so it causes more dander, poor quality coat and skin
When my dog was little, she had a skin condition so I used a special shampoo that cost a LOT. If the dog is healthy, any shampoo from the pet store is fine. Just choose the kind that works for the kind of fur your dog has. I'm sure they will have all sorts of smells, but this is a dog we're talking about. There's no need to go all fancy.
There is no ';best'; shampoo, but there is a variety.. you have loads to choose from, but you better check if your dog is allergic to anything.

I prefer natural smells but ah well, that's just me :P

    Hope this helped, :)

What kind of dog shampoo is best for my dogs?

alot of people said that hartz product are bad, if so what shampoo should i get for my shihchon and yorkie-poo?What kind of dog shampoo is best for my dogs?
One with lanolin, aloes, and oatmeal. and a flea killer.

Vets sell one called Micodec...It is great for fleas and for the dog's coat. Get the one that's blue liquid, not the yellow. What kind of dog shampoo is best for my dogs?
My first three dogs used Hartz, Sergeant's, etc, and that's total crap about it being bad. My other two would use it as well, but Petco and Petsmart don't sell it, which is where we get most of our dog supplies.
Hartz isn't the best shampoo, but some people say it works.

    This is good shampoo:

you can find it at petco

as well as lots of other shampoos
I use hartzs shampoo for my dogs and I will also by the oatmeal shampoo for dogs and use that the only think that is dangerous to dogs is the hartzs flea drops
well i use fresh and clean sometimes and pethead [bed head for dogs]

i don't know if it is that good for your dogs coat but i think it is
i use hydro surge shampoos the kind that comes in the cartridge. i like the apple-oatmeal for my dog.
shihcho??... yorkipoo lol.. oh boy.. more designer dogs..

get a natural Oatmeal Based Shampoo. i use 8in1 if that's a good prduct for my Labrador Retriever.
Bio-Groom and Tropiclean are the best. All natural ingredients. Won't go wrong with that.
I've never had a problem using hartz shampoo on my dogs. It is just shampoo.
petsmart or petco has alot of shampoo products to pick from you should check them out
I get my dog shampoos at Cherrybrook.com .They have great show dog shampoos.

What's a good dog shampoo with sulfur and/or Salicylic Acid?

He has dandruff and I was told to use a shampoo with these ingredients...any idea what brand I should look for? Has anyone ever used a good shampoo for dandruff? My vet said not to use ANY kind of human shampoo on dogs because the PH balance in the skin is different. What's a good dog shampoo with sulfur and/or Salicylic Acid?
I would go to Petsmart or Petco and ask. And yeah, don't use human shampoo on your dog, it's bad for their skin so it would probably just make it worse. What's a good dog shampoo with sulfur and/or Salicylic Acid?
What is really good for dogs i use it on my 3 is pantene prov or head and shoulders. make sure you rinse ur dog over a couple of times to get rid of it! Dont listen to him, we asked our vet on all 3 dogs and they said its fine as long as you dont use it often so dont wash ur dog every month/week! :)
sounds like an acne cleanser try Neutrogena but then again i guess thats for humans maybe you can find a acne product for dogs...good luck
u dont put sulfur on ur dog silly

  • Has anyone ever heard of using dog shampoo, for fullness and it helps grow hair?

A friend of mine said her mom was going bald, someone told her about using dog shampoo, she did for a couple of months and then hair started growing back. Someone else I know uses it also and her hair is shiney and has alot of body to it.Has anyone ever heard of using dog shampoo, for fullness and it helps grow hair?
Haven't heard of using dog shampoo, but there is a shampoo out called Mane %26amp; Tail, that is often used on horses which is supposed to help with thinning hair when used in conjunction with the conditioner of the same name.Has anyone ever heard of using dog shampoo, for fullness and it helps grow hair?
unexplained side effects: barking, sniffing, and peeing outside...
I wouldn't trust it. I used dog shampoo on my dog once, and he got warts.
I heard of people using horse shampoo, but not dog. Then again I might of heard dog too, can't remember...8\
I have also heard of people using horse shampoo, so it is not unusual for people to find animal products that they like better.
i haven't heard it used for body or to grow hair. i have heared of it being used to get rid of lice. so unless you have lice i wouldn't try it. i mean it is made for dogs not humans, there has to be a reason for that.
No, I haven't heard of that before, but I have heard of dogmange shampoo for the hair. BUt you mix it in some vaseline or royal crown hair grease and grease your hair 3 times a week with it to grow your hair back.
    no
i havent heard of that. I know the pH balance is way different in it than in people shampoo. So it could give her scalp problems. I know this, cause I washed my pooch in suave, and he got dandruff and dry skin, so I had to ask the vet. I wouldn't do it, it could cause more problems than it could help.
Yeah sweetie dont do that it helps the first couple of times but after that it could damage your hair and you could probally even get an infection theres a reason dog shampoo is called DOG shampoo its specifically for DOGS!!

What is a good smelling dog shampoo?

My puggle is a very smelly dog. We bathe him once every 2 weeks but after 3 days or so he goes back to smelling bad. He's an indoor dog.

Whats a good recommendation in shampoo that has lasting scent??What is a good smelling dog shampoo?
I swear by a shampoo and conditioner called Aloveen. Its an oatmeal and aloe shampoo and it smells divine! My dogs all smell lovely for ages after their baths and their coats are soft and skin not irritated at all. What is a good smelling dog shampoo?
Fresh n Clean-original has a long lasting scent. My groomer uses it. There is a rinse and spray that is also available. You can get it a many pet stores and on line. My dogs smell great for weeks after they have been groomed.

You may also want to make sure the wrinkles in his face (if he has them) are kept clean. They attract moisture and infections, and could easily make your dog smell.
How about Virbac oatmeal shampoo, if available in your part of the world? It's soothing, not drying and has a soft fragrance. As he smells ';doggie'; so fast, why not get the vet to check him for ear or yeast infection which does make a dog smell bad? Do clean his ears twice monthly, if not already done, but ask the vet or a groomer how to clean it so that you don't damage the ear drums and cause deafness.
Get Groomed, naturally glamorous beauty. The LuLu Pink Grapefruit is the BEST. It has a fresh scent. The line has a freshen-up spritz, detangle spritz, shampoo, conditioner I could go on and on. My Puppy Loves it, he jumps and runs circles around me when he sees the bottles.
I also have a smelly dog and we use a shampoo which contains Tea Tree Oil.It seems to make her smell better for longer and is excellent for skin conditions and keeping fleas at bay!
Rub him with bacon. Bacon is delicious.

(ALL NATUAL )What is the best dog shampoo for dogs that itch allot?

NO he dont have fleas just always itching but I am looking for more of a home remide then meds(ALL NATUAL )What is the best dog shampoo for dogs that itch allot?
One of my dogs used to itch a lot and have slightly red skin. The problem was that I was using normal detergent to wash his bedding when I should have been using non-bio. The vet also said not to use carpet talc to freshen up the carpet as this can also causes skin irritation.

I'm not saying your dog has the same problem I'm just suggesting a possible cause to his itching rather than masking it with a shampoo.

If you find out what is causing his itching then you'll know what is the best shampoo for his condition.(ALL NATUAL )What is the best dog shampoo for dogs that itch allot?
Ive also heard that if your dog has a food allergy to corn it causes them to have an skin irritation. If you can't find a shampoo that works for you try switching the dogs food to Nutro or another product that doesnt use corn as a filler. I have a Pitbull who is 2 and she had some itchy spots so I changed her food to Nutro and she has been great. Hope this helps!
i know this sounds silly but it does work... i got this from my granmother.... gove him a bath in Dawn dishwashing liquid and then use a good conditioner on him... the best condtioner would be horse mane and tail... you can buy it at walmart and it really works.... and the dawn dishwashing liquid even kills fleas and is completly safe..... i promise... good luck...
If your dog itches a lot, and you know it is not flea, you may be looking at a food allergy. When my dog was itching they asked what type and brand of dog food I was feeding him. Ask your vet if this may be an issue.
I have doggies %26amp; I'd probably use a Head %26amp; Shoulders product on them....make your sure you rinse your furry friend well, soap residue can dry skin out further.

My hubbie likes the medicated dog brands, but they're pricey %26amp; can't be better than Head %26amp; Shoulders!
the best thing to do is go and buy some head and shoulders shampoo. it really works. i use it on my dog and when my brother had his rottie the vet to him to use it.
Oatmeal is very good for the skin. You can buy dog shampoo with it or use baby shampoo and soak some oatmeal in it.

    Good luck!
Malaseb shampoo is what is recommended by Dermatologists..
QUIT ITCH is a shampoo that helps with itch, and some pine tarsal

if you use any shampoo and work at the hair well and make sure you coat everything well and rinse everything well, there should be no smell besides shampoo fragrance and maybe a little wet dog. you may not be washing well enough. when your bored, go to petsmart.com and petco.com and just look at all the shampoos they have to offer, there might be something you like. But I don't think its the shampoo leaving him stinkyAny one know a good odor killing dog shampoo?

Can i use dog shampoo on my guinea pig?

i only have my shampoo and dog shampoo. which should i use? or should i use any of them? Can i use dog shampoo on my guinea pig?
    Don't use either.

Guinea pigs have extremely sensitive skin and even the gentlest of baby shampoos is too rough on them. The dog shampoo would be even worse, since it may contain anti-flea medication which may kill your guinea pig.

    http://www.guinealynx.info/grooming.html鈥?/a>

The only thing you should use to bathe your guinea pig is just water or shampoo formulated just for small animals. Four Paws Bunny Bath works great on guinea pigs.

http://www.amazon.com/Four-Paws-Bunny-Sh鈥?/a>Can i use dog shampoo on my guinea pig?
Your piggie should not need to be bathed at all, unless he/she somehow got very dirty. They really do a good job of cleaning themselves!

However, if you find you MUST bathe your piggie, dog shampoo is a no-no. Dog, cat, puppy, kitten, and baby shampoo are too drying for their delicate skin. You'll need to purchase shampoo that is formulated for use with ';small animals';. It can be found at just about any pet supply store and costs no more than human shampoo.
ok when i bathed my guineapigs i just diluted some children's shampoo with water and my pigs are just fine. healthy and happy. no skin problems at all. i really don't think you should use the dog shampoo.
i think you should just use your normal shampoo because when i give my Rabbit a bath ( guinea pigs and rabbits are the same as i bet you know) i just use my normal shampoo or my sisters ( please dont tell)lol!
I suggest you go to the pet store and buy special shampoo for little critters like guinea pigs. using your own shampoo or dog shampoo and irritate your guinea pigs skin and cause it to be really uncomfortable.
you can clean it but check forthese thing make sur theres no chemicals of skin irritatin things and you need to make sure not to get any in the eye it caauses perminet eye damage
Um...what? That's pretty funny. Never heard of anyone bathing a guinea pig. I seriously doubt if it matters what shampoo you use. You probably could use dishwashing liquid.
    dont use any of them!

only use either special guinea pig shampoo kitten shampoo or baby shampoo.
    Use a baby shampoo

JOHNSONS BABY SHAMPOO NO MORE TEARS.

    It's good for guinea pigs.

I used it to bathe them.
dog shampoo isnt a good idea.

best thing for them is baby shampoo. very gentle.

What would happen if a human uses dog shampoo?

the shampoo %26amp; conditioner is called fresh 'n clean oatmeal 'n baking soda. it doesn't say humans cant use it..... so can humans use it?What would happen if a human uses dog shampoo?
Actually, most dog shampoos (if not for fleas %26amp; ticks) are actually much gentler.

Just let us know if you start barking. LOLWhat would happen if a human uses dog shampoo?
    Well... you CAN use it.

Using an animal shampoo won't hurt you, but it won't help you either. If I were you, I'd try sticking to human shampoo.. it's much more... normal.. that way. ;D

    %26lt;3-Katie
Sure I don't see why not. as long as your not allergic to anything in the shampoo-or conditioner I see no reason why you can't use it
I've used dog shampoos on my hair.

The La Pooch is especially nice, and leaves a long-lasting scent.
I don't see why you can't, at least you won't have fleas!!!! JK LOL

  • What would happen if you used dog shampoo on human hair?

You scalp might get a little dry but nothing big. It is just made for a different PH level. Just don't do it again. What would happen if you used dog shampoo on human hair?
youd have clean , bug free hair lol, it cant hurt it its just not designed for human useWhat would happen if you used dog shampoo on human hair?
nothing really i have because I was out of shampoo and if ya don't trust my I'll go test it again
It will dry out your hair and scalp and give you that wet dog feeling, but it can be used. I've had to use the flea and tick stuff on my hair when I come back from camping (the idea of ticks living on my head creeps me out). Just be very careful not to get it in your eyes and rinse really well.
Boy dogs might be after you and all the dogs in the neighborhood might stop over! Just kidding it will dry your hair out more than usual. Hey but no ticks or fleas will want near ya...
nothing...your hair might get a bit dry but nothing bad.
No idea but I used horse mane and tail conditioner on my hair and got great results.
The same thing that happens when you use human shampoo on dog hair. The PH of a dogs hair is different than that of a human. Each shmpoo is made for a specific PH. The wrong PH dries out the hair. It becomes broken and brittle.
The biggest difference between our shampoo and the dog shampoo is that our shampoo has detergents and our dogs shampoo does not. The detergents are needed because we have pores and secrete more oils than our dogs do. You might find that your dog's shampoo doesn't lather as much as yours, and this is why :)

It wouldn't hurt you if you used the shampoo. Even if it's used for treating something like fleas, it's mild enough for our dog's sensitive skin so shouldn't hurt yours. It's gentler all around than our shampoo, so you might find that you won't get the squeaky clean hair you're used to.

It's not as bad as using our shampoo on them - it'll strip the oils on their skin and leave their coat dry and dull.
if human use it what would dog will use it will get soon over and dogs hair reamains dirty

Has anyone ever heard of Dirty Dog Shampoo?

I went to biglots a warehouse store that goes through many items and found a shampoo line for dogs called Dirty Dog Shampoo and it was the best stuff I had ever used. I always got the Blue bottle for white haired dogs but I cant find any place that sells it anymore. Ive tried all the obvious places like Wal Mart and Petco and petsmart and tried a few places online but cant find anything. Does anyone know if its still being made or where i can find some. I live in San Antonio Tx. Please help.Has anyone ever heard of Dirty Dog Shampoo?
Please check out the following links for three different kinds of ';Dirty Dog'; shampoo. Who knew there were so many!Has anyone ever heard of Dirty Dog Shampoo?
i saw it at biglots here in missouri the other day but ive never seen it in another store either....sorry.

How do you make homemade Dog Shampoo and Conditioner?

    You don't, unless you're trash!

What can you use to wash a dog when you run out of dog shampoo?

You can you DawnWhat can you use to wash a dog when you run out of dog shampoo?
Gentle people shampoo - baby shampoo is best. What can you use to wash a dog when you run out of dog shampoo?
You ***WAIT*** until you get some MORE!!!

There's ***NO*** reason for an EMERGENCY bath!!!

Do NOT use dish soap OR people-crap!!!

    BAD STUFF!!! ***WAY*** too strong!!!
A good quality shampoo is fine. It needs to be a good one like nexxus therappe. You would be surprised to fine how harsh some dog shampoo's are.If you woud'nt use it then don';t put it on your pet.
I always use my own shampoo and conditioner on my dog (pantene)- or I use johnsons baby body wash.
You can use normal washing up liquid (for dishes)...the chemical formula is the same as that of shampoo, only that shampoo has lots of chemicals to make it smell nice. They both have chemicals which break the surface tension of water and grease. It is an emulsifier. You could also use soap.

    DON'T LISTEN TO THEM:

It is perfectly OK to use dish washer liquid. People say it dries the dogs skin and is bad for it. Did you know that most of these dish washer liquids have the same pH as soap (pH 9) It is equally dangerous to have soap or shampoo on yourself than putting dish washer liquid on yourself. Ask a chemist. You could technically bathe with this dishwasher liquid...It is perfectly harmless and has the same chemical formula as shampoo!
Johnson's Baby Shampoo or any other that says ';no more tears';.
Human shampoo works just as well. Baby shampoo is the best because it doesn't irritate the eyes.
I have trained bird dogs for over 15 years and the best thing I have found to wash dogs that wont irritate them is Johnson's No More Tears Baby Shampoo, forget all the rest off the stuff out there its the best.

It is also the best thing I have ever found to get the skunk smell off of a dog it works every time.

Just be sure and rinse em off real good after you lather them up.
My parents always used a very small amount of palmolive dish soap diluted with lots of water.

I wouldn't do that, I use dog shampoo, but have also used baby and kid's (Suave) shampoo. I never had any problems when using these but I have heard that it can be harmful (think about it, though, if it is good enough for babies and kids, why not dogs). I just try to make sure that I keep dog shampoo on hand, though.
I always have used regular shampoo and conditioner. Just make sure you rinse it out really good. Your dog will smell good and soft.
uhhhhhhh, i don't know maybe u should just go to the store and buy some
    buy more shampoo....

    lol
    Bodywash soap.
    baby shampoo
It's really not a good idea to use human shampoo on a dog.

It would be a good idea to ask a groomer what they suggest for your dog's type of coat.

They are the professionals in that field and work with different breeds each day.

    Take care.
Buy more (what a concept!) Don't use regular shampoo. It dries out their skin.
    i would use baby shampoo
there is no reason to do emergency bath when you're out of dog shampoo, UNLESS he rolled in something smelly in which case you can just spot wash him.

Never use DAWN or other soaps like that. it is too strong for dog's delicate skin.

go to the store and buy more dog shampoo.
shampoo or dish detergent, just watch his eyes and ears
Anything that is tear free. People shampoo (and detergent) can be too harsh for doggie skin, so be carefull!
i use savalon disf it kills all flees and puts a nice.smell and shine on ur dog dilute well
You can use regular shampoo and conditioner. Just make sure you use conditioner. A lot of people use dish detergents or regular shampoos without conditioner, but this will dry out their skin. If you have conditioner though, it would not be a problem. Just get some more shampoo as soon as you can. Thier skin is different than ours.
Do NOT use regular human supplies. i know everyone uses them, but it's bad. It dries up your dog's skin and can have bad effects.
go to the store and buy some or use regular shampoo

Can I use my 'for people' organic oatmeal wash on my dog, instead of dog shampoo?

He is a chihuahua, doesn't shed almost at all but has dandruff. I figured oatmeal would be good for that, but could I use mine, or is it necessary to get his own?Can I use my 'for people' organic oatmeal wash on my dog, instead of dog shampoo?
Yes you can. Most pet shampoos tend to be less alkaline in nature then our shampoo. Just asses for itchy or dry skin. A rehydrater or creme rinse will be nessesary to lower the PH after your ';human'; shampoo. Rehydrater should sit on coat for at least 3-5 minutes before cool rinse. Leave in conditioners can also be healpful and often provide SPF.

YOu may want to try Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo. This is an effective treatment for humans and canines. Get the one with Coal Tar and Sulfer. This is excellent for occasional use for treatment of seborrhea, dandruff, allergy, bacteria, fungus, and dermatitis of unknown origins.

Keep shampoo out of eyes and ears. Can I use my 'for people' organic oatmeal wash on my dog, instead of dog shampoo?
The best is that you get a dog shampoo that treats his dandruff problem as the dog might not be able to take the contents in human shampoo.

You can also get those pet medicated sprays to treat his dandruff problem. I got a medicated spray for my coming 10 months old Beagle as he has got flakes and it is working quite well and I can see that there is improvement.
It's better to just get an oatmeal shampoo especially formulated for dogs. Then use a creme rinse conditioner, let it stay for at least 3 minutes. And don't forget to rinse your dog's hair and skin very well. Sometimes, dandruff is caused by not rinsing properly or not rinsing very well.
Make sure you read the labels....find out whats in the shampoo and do some research.....just because something is organic doesnt mean that it wont cause an alergic reaction.....maybe do a test patch on you dog first....I think that would be better than doing a complete wash with something that could potentially harmful to you dog.....I know my dog has very sensitive skin (as many staffordshire bull terriers do) and its taken me a lot of test patches and research to find what shampoo I cant use on him :)
I wouldn't use human shampoo, why don't you call your vet, tell them the problem and ask if they sell a suitable shampoo, if they say no, then you could ask them to recommend something. You don't actually have to make an appointment to see them.
i use people shampoo all the time on my dogs. they smell like oranges. lol

Is it true that you HAVE to get dog shampoo for dogs or you can use regular shampoo that we use at home?

Cause my parents keep saying theres no point in buying dog shampoo cause we could our shampoo on our hair then why cant we use it on dogs?

so im not sure?Is it true that you HAVE to get dog shampoo for dogs or you can use regular shampoo that we use at home?
    Dawn is actually the best and it ';cuts grease';

You don't need to use anything specific unless you have a medical condition you are trying to maintain.

You should not wash your dog but a couple of times a year.

Grow up people and quit wasting your money. Donate it to save a dog or cat in your area.Is it true that you HAVE to get dog shampoo for dogs or you can use regular shampoo that we use at home?
Because human shampoo is formulated for people and is much too harsh for a dog. So, yes, you need dog shampoo and you also need to be careful to bath a dog only when absolutely necessary, no more than once a month at most, because you're stripping all the oils out of their coat and drying the skin as well.
it really depends on what you use. because my dog has sensitive skin believe it or not dog shampoo is too harsh for him. my vet suggested we only use johnson and johnson baby shampoo. because that is a human shampoo i see no reason you cant use it on a dog especially since my vet said it was ok to use a baby shampoo.
Most adult shampoo is too strong for a dog's coat and itsn't good for thier skin. I've heard that you can bathe your dog in Baby shampoo though. Dog shampoo is by far the safest though.
dont use regular shampoo always use dog shampoo and dont bother using baby shampoo or any other brand except dog shampoo normal shampoo strips the dogs of oils they need for there fur to be and look all healthy and it dries out your dogs skin

its not even that expensive you can get some for 拢2 or$2

    BUY DOG SHAMPOO (=

    %26lt;33
My vet said that you can use baby shampoo or Dove, if that is all you have on hand..

I have used baby shampoo when bathing a dirty found dog.

But on my own dogs over the years I used dog shampoos. I esp liked the stuff for black coats on my rotties, years ago, not sure if still make it. Made their coats super shiny!

Plus some dogs are super sensitive and can get a rash or really dry their skin out.
When I do bathe my dog - which is rarely - I use my shampoo or dish soap. Never in the 6 years that I have had my dog have I noticed any problems with this. Her coat looks fine and she has no problems with her skin. She still hates baths though.

Most of my friends do the same thing and they don't have any trouble either.
Dog shampoo is formulated for the Ph of a dog's hair/skin. Human shampoo is formulated for the Ph of a human's hair/skin.

Using human shampoo (preferrably baby shampoo) in a pinch is fine, but for regular bathing you need to use dog shampoo. Otherwise you will damage the dog's coat.
    use ur shampoo
dogs have different hair and skin. use dog shampoo to keep them from getting scalp problems.
in a pinch i have used human shampoo....BUT animals have more sensetive skin than us and could be allergic to ingredients.... if you must use aveeno oatmeal products. or find one that is hypoallergenic....
It's my understanding that dog's skin has different PH values then humans do. I bought some oatmeal shampoo for dogs at walmart for my dog- it was about $3.50. You shouldn't wash your dog too often anyway- i dries out their coat. I have heard it's best to wash long haired dogs 6 times a year and short haired dogs twice a year. I think my dog gets smelly so he gets a bath 2times a month (he's shorthaired).

Call your vet and get their opinion- then tell your parents- they should trust the vet.
I am a chemist and I read the ingredients on supposed dog shampoo and people shampoo, the ingredients that you see in both are the same. There are some speciality shampoos out there (just like there are speciality shampoos for people) that do contain different ingredients. If you are simply buying off the rack at a petstore (PetCo, Petsmart, target) you are spending an arm and a leg for pet shampoo that some genius has marked up to 9.00 a bottle (or more) because people don't do their homework and marketers know that people will pay an arm and a leg for their poocie poo.

I reccommend the speciality shampoos, their cost is worth it. But if you are going to buy off the rack, might as well buy human shampoo, they are NO different. If you do buy human shampoo you do NOT want to buy a scented or dyed shampoo, you want it to be free of those things. Pantene and suave work well and aren't too expensive. I bathed my dogs for an entire year (bathed them once a month) using suave and their hair and skin was fine (vet confirmed).

Be careful, regardless of what kind of shampoo you use to

1.) completely rinse - that is the biggest problem with washing dogs and what causes dogs to have a reaction is that all the soap isn't rinsed off them. Rinse them, scrub them to make sure sudsies don't appear, rinse again

2.) don't bathe them too much - at most 1 time a month should be all that is needed. If your dog is stinking up, chances are he may have skin problems due to his food. Check with your vet - dogs really shouldn't stink!
get dog shampoo because it is specialy formulated to clean dogs tell me would you use dog shampoo or eat dog food?? well same goes for the dog well not the dog food part he/she'll eat anything meatty you give it unless it's a pure breed and knows better.
The best dog shampoos are soapless, like HyLit, expensive but worth it. Human shampoo is made to strip oil from hair, which you certainly do not want to do with dogs, they get itchy skin if you do.

Tell your parents that a bottle of HyLit, or similar product, is expensive - but you do NOT give your dog baths that often (you shouldn't, you know)

and it lasts a long time. It is also much cheaper than having to take your dog to the vet for skin conditions, which can happen if you use shampoo not of good quality made specifically for dogs.

Not so many baths please - dogs don't need them unless they got into something nasty.
A dogs PH balance is different to ours so human shampoo should NOT be used. You can harm their skin which will end up costing you more money in the long run. Tell your parents to not be so tight. the shampoo will last a long time as you should not shampoo a dog too often as natural oils will be taken away. :)
Human shampoo is very harsh for a dog and can cause bad skin problems. Dog shampoo's are specially formulated for a dogs coat and skin.

Okay, the absolute -BEST- dog shampoo on the market......isn't actually a dog shampoo! It's called ';Mane %26amp; Tail'; and I think they may sell it at Walmart, but I am not sure. It's for Horses, Cows, Sheep, and other -extremely- dirty animals. It works amazing wonders on dogs, too. I've given my dog a bath with all sorts of Flea %26amp; Tick Shampoos, smelly-good shampoos, human shampoos, everything. I -never- see as much dirt in the water as when I wash them with Mane %26amp; Tail. They have a Conditioner as well.
Pedigree with coconut smell. Smells just fine, keeps the dog clean for a while
    jojoba bean

What is the best ';soap free'; dog shampoo?

I am looking to find what people believe is the best soap free dog shampoo, something that is organic is a plus but not necessary.

I have a 10 month old Pug that receives Frontline Plus Flea medication each month. I understand from several veterinarians that shampoos with soap cut down on the long time effectiveness of the medication. So I am now beginning my search and would like any help or ideas that people can provide. Thanks-you!What is the best ';soap free'; dog shampoo?
Most quality pet shampoos do not have soap or detergents in them. I would suggest using a hypo pet shampoo without perfumes %26amp; dyes also for the best shampoo. I use Kenic products which are all hypo-allergenic %26amp; have an organic base instead soap based. They have a number of different formulas. What is the best ';soap free'; dog shampoo?
I use Hylyt its a soap free dog shampoo. smells nice and never had a problem with. I have a Jack Russell and since she's mostly white she has rather sensitive skin and since I started using Hylyt she has done great. I get mine from Petsmart but its not cheap about 17 or 18 dollars a bottle. not sure if its organic or not.
I like either NuHemp shampoos or Tropiclean shampoos.

Both are soap-free and pet-safe. They both do a very nice job and give easy combouts and a fresh smelling pet.
    water down baby shampoo

Can i wash my chiuawua with baby shampoo instead of dog shampoo?

because i just got this dog about a month ago and i dont know everything there is to know about them still learning .... but i thing is i hate the way dog shampoo smells so is baby shampoo ok or will it dry or irritate her skin???Can i wash my chiuawua with baby shampoo instead of dog shampoo?
Dogs have a different PH than humans. You should use a puppy oatmeal shampoo and don't bathe to often or you can end up with dry skin. Can i wash my chiuawua with baby shampoo instead of dog shampoo?
Absolutely! And if it has fleas, you can bathe her in dawn dishwashing liquid to kill the fleas! Chihuahuas don't smell, so they don't need bathed very often - once a month is fine.
first of all its CHIHUAHUA. and second, yes you can. i use oatmeal baby shampoo on both of my chihuahuas and it makes them feel smooth and smell great! plus the oatmeal is good for there skin.
Any kind of human shampoo will probably remove too much good healthy oil from the coat. Pet stores and vet clinics sell good dog shampoos and will give you advice on which to use.

    Happy hunting.
Baby shampoo is just fine. it wont irritate the skin. I use baby soap on my dogs face, when i bathe them, only because its extremely gentle and wont irritate their eyes
Im not sure what a chiuawua is but if it is a dog then no do not use human shampoo.
Yes, because it is very gentle on your dog's skin and it won't bother his eyes.
Chihuahua. It will dry him out too much.
yea you can do it, it wont hurt. i wash my small animals with it (rats guinea pigs mice)
yes baby shampoo is mild and often sold at pet stores
    no

How do you say ';Dog Shampoo'; in Russian?

Is dog an adjective modiying shampoo, does it become ';shampoo of dogs (dog)';, or there a single word for dog shampoo? How do you say ';dog shampoo'; in Russian?
    Собачий шампунь [sa-BA-chiy sham-POON'].

As you suggest first, ';dog'; here is an adjective (собачий, from the noun собака = dog) modifying shampoo (шампунь).

    OR

шампунь для собак [sham-POON' dlya sa-BAK]

As you suggest secondly, this means ';shampoo for (not ';of';) dogs';.

Does anyone know of a good dog shampoo that works. Many I try seem to make my dog itch more?

I give him his bathe and it seems like many of these brands do nothing but make him want to itch more and more.Does anyone know of a good dog shampoo that works. Many I try seem to make my dog itch more?
To be honest, don't bath your dog unless you have to. Dog's are not like humans and do not need to be bathed every week. In fact it's bad for them and their coats, skin etc. If they have rolled in something disgusting (as dogs do) then OK but otherwise as long as they get a good brush out a couple of times a week, only bath them once a month at most in fact less if possible.Does anyone know of a good dog shampoo that works. well, it seems to be a good question for your VETERINARIAN....????
this is where your vet comes in, your dog may need to have a prescription shampoo; when you go take in ALL of the shampoos you have tried on your pet to show the vet how many you've tried on your own before going in to get his help.
How often do you bathe him? Every 1-3 Months is good.
Have a professional groomer give your dog a bath. They have access to dog shampoos that the average person does not.

How often are you giving your dog a bath? Could be too often.
