Dog Shampoo, what type is the best?

I've heard of people using regular shampoo on their dogs. Is that a good idea? I'm thinking like maybe good-quality baby shampoo or something.

If it isn't, what would be the best shampoo/conditioners to use on a single-coated silky-fur type breed? How about for a normal short-haired double coated dog? What kind will make the dog smell the best, and is it really such a good idea to ask the petstore? My thought there is, ';If my PSYCHIATRIST was pushing crappy meds on me, what makes me think petstores wouldn't push crappy shampoo?';

And I'm serious about the meds thing. Never let your doc pull you off meds cold turkey in opt for a half dose of a single medication when you were on double doses of 3 kinds of meds.Dog Shampoo, what type is the best?
Target sells a great product called ';Just add water'; and I think is comes in 3 flavors. My favorite is the coconut and I get the perfume spray for afterwards.

Make sure the shampoo you purchase has oatmal in it - it will prevent skin from drying out.

I have a lab and they are prone to dry skin and I have never had a problem, if that answers your double-coat short hair question.Dog Shampoo, what type is the best?
I actually use Human Shampoo on my (believe it or not) cat and dog. If you leave the shampoo on the animal for a couple minutes, it KILLS the FLEAS! When we discovered this, We stopped buying little $10 flea killer shampoo bottles that didn't kill the fleas. That is my only suggestion on shampoo on animals. When we wash our cat, it makes his hair silky and soft. But I think that is because there isn't any dirt on it. But, I don't know anything else about shampoo on animals.
try going for the profeestional kind. You may want to check your dog's hair type. is it oily? does he or she dandruff? dry? try going for the naturals. they work work pretty well
I've heard that Selson blue is the best human shampoo to use on dogs. I use Victory 777 on mine and it makes her smell good and her coat is shinny.
Do NOT use people products. They will remove all the natural oils and dry out the coat. Most dog shampoos are about the same, unless you're one of those all-natural freaks. I use Buddy Wash on my lab.
Try an Ajax/Clorox combo. (just kiddin...) I dunno....Don't have a dog!=)

What brand of Dog Shampoo do you buy?

Hi! I am doing a project for school, in which I need to poll some people on a product that they buy - and I would like to know about dog shampoo. Please answer the following questions about dog shampoo:

1) Why did you need to buy dog shampoo?

2) What were your choices?

3) Why did you choose to buy the brand that you did?

4) Where did you choose to buy your shampoo? Why?

5)How did you feel about your purchase after you bought it?

6) Would you buy it again? Why or why not?

7) Do you have a family or just you and your dog? (This question is to see if people make different decisions based on family size)

I would really appreciate your answers, my family and I live in a very secluded area, and getting the answers for my paper is very difficult. Thank you very much in advance for your answers!!What brand of Dog Shampoo do you buy?
I have several dogs with VERY long hair

I used to use Mr Australia, but recently switched to Fructis, as the former is hard to find.

I learned that human shampoo is fine, and Fructis makes them easier to brush, and shiny.

I buy it at the drug store,as it is close to home.

I loved the results

I will certainly buy it again, as it did such a nice job, and for a reasonable price.

Spouse, and several dogs.

NOTE:

This is a quote from Mike Richards, DVM%26gt;

I saw a study once, which I couldn't find to supply the reference for,

which was a review of the ingredients of various pet and people shampoos,

as well as a test of factors like pH and eye irritation. In the study, the

authors could find no significant differences between pet shampoos and

people shampoos. So I tell my clients to use whatever they like, or have on

hand.

I am sure that some shampoos work better on any particular dog than others

but that the brands that work well for that one dog may not be the best for

another dog. %26lt;%26lt;http://www.vetinfo4dogs.com/dhair.html#S鈥?/a>

I did further study and did learn that dog shampoo-vs-people shampoo is just a huge marketing hype, that we have fallen for for many years, and is making the marketers rich..It is just like listening to the dog food commercials, and excepting THEIR word for it as being the best..I have had more problems with dry skin and dandruff using ';dog shampoo'; than I have had using high- quality ';people'; shampoo..And I have and bathe a LOT of big hairy dogs that are sensitive to chemicals. What brand of Dog Shampoo do you buy?
1. It is healthier for a dog to be clean.

2. Overpriced pet store brands, old product grocery store brands, or online brands. I picked online.

3. I had gotten a sample of this product with a previous order. It worked well.

4. I picked a brand from a website (PetNutritionProducts.com). Great price, awesome product, inexpensive shipping, fast shipping, and excellent customer service.

5. Very satisfied. This shampoo works great.

6. Yes because it is the best dog shampoo I have ever used. This company also has an online vet to consult if you ever have questions. This is the best company I have ever delt with.

7. I have a two adult family with one precious pooch.
1) Why did you need to buy dog shampoo? Cuz I'm a groomer :)

2) What were your choices? Hundreds of shampoos out there. Too many to list brands. I use Espree, Les Poochs, and Groomers Edge Grimenator

3) Why did you choose to buy the brand that you did? I like how it cleans, smells and dilutes.

4) Where did you choose to buy your shampoo? Why? Straight from the manufacturer. It's easier and cheaper, plus I can get deals if I buy in quantities.

5)How did you feel about your purchase after you bought it? Good

6) Would you buy it again? Why or why not? Yes..like I said, I like the results I get.

7) Do you have a family or just you and your dog? (This question is to see if people make different decisions based on family size) Family of 4, 3 dogs, 2 ferrets, 1 cat, 2 lizards and a bird.

p.s. Hartz is the worst product out there.
Groomers edge.. because it cleans well, makes their coats shine, is easy on the skin (non drying) and smells wonderful.

it is also concentrated 32 to 1 so it goes A LONG way!
1) It's called Tropiclean. I like the Papaya scented one.

2) Earthbath (I'm trying that next). I was at a holistic pet store, so that's all the choices.

3) It was cheaper than Earthbath, and I liked how it smelled.

4) I was at a holistic pet store called ';Animal Nutrition Center'; in Roseville California. I was there getting all natural, high quality dog food. (Wellness)

5) It's dog shampoo, not anything essential to survival. I like it just fine. The dog hates her bath, so she hates it.

6) Yes. It keeps the dog smelling nice and her coat shiny.

7) Yes, it's just me and Dott (my dog). I know for sure that if I had kids, I wouldn't spend so much on shampoo for her.

Hope this helps. Good luck with the project.

good luck with your paper
1- because I have an indoor dog and he needs to be clean

2-Hartz-Mountain dog shampoo is all I remember

3-I bought Johnson's Baby Shampoo because even tho it is not made for dogs it is tear free, and my dog is a poodle. They get tear stains that need to be washed. I don't want to get other soaps because they might burn his eyes.

4-Walmart. It is one of the few choices to shop at where I live, and I was buying groceries as well.

5-good, I like the result and the smell

6-yes, it cleans my dog well with no tears and pleasant smell of baby scent

7-my husband and I, one dog, 3 cats

What's the difference between dog shampoo and people shampoo?!?

don't they test normal shampoo on them anyways? What's the difference between dog shampoo and people shampoo?!?
Many dog shampoos also have a flea killer in them also. And the pH of a dogs skin is slightly different than ours. This is important because a dog's skin can be ';cleaned'; too good and if all the oils are removed it can result in the dog having very itchy skin.

Can we use dog shampoo for humans?

What makes dog shampoo so different from human shampoo?

What would happen if we used it on a human? Can we use dog shampoo for humans?
yes you can. There is not much difference. Usually fragrance is the biggest change. Can we use dog shampoo for humans?
Off-course you can apply but before doing that please take permission from your dog whether he let you use that.
You CAN, but there's no real reason I could see to want to use dog shampoo over normal shampoo. Except for flea protection, I suppose.
EW.
I took a shower at my sister's house one time and used the dog shampoo by mistake. All it did was that I smelled like the dog and I didn't have flees for a few days .... LOL
If you look at the ingredients in your shampoo and the dogs... you will find them pretty much, if not all, the same.... you will just smell funny because of the stuff put in dog shampoos to get rid of doggy odder stinks. :o) You may want to try the flea and tick shampoo if you need it... lol!
People use horse shampoo (Mane N Tail)...so I don't see what the big deal is about using dog shampoo. I've use Mane N Tail in the past..never thought about using dog shampoo...but go for it...it wouldn't harm you in any way...
I don't see why not...

but why would you..

could you not just buy human shampoo...

unless you're too poor to afford normal shampoo

Dont have dog shampoo, what about organic oils shampoo?

italian grey hound. I have this pure-castile soap and its made by all organic material.Dont have dog shampoo, what about organic oils shampoo?
if you use a very mild shampoo, it should be fine. just don't make a habit of it. it;s important to use a good dog shampoo so that you don't dry out your dog's skin and cause it to itch.

Fresh %26amp; Clean oatmeal and baking soda works well on my doggie that has sensitive skin.Is there a specific brand or kind of dog shampoo i should use for dogs with allergies or sensitive skin?
Go to the expert...your vet. He/she will recommend something that you can be sure you'll feel safe using.

    Peace~~~

Could anyone recommend a good dry dog shampoo, something under $10 that I could find at a store like Walmart?

I don't like to spend a fortune on anything until I try it, winter is coming %26amp; our dog of 50 lbs. detests the bathtub (we adopted her or this wouldn't be an issue). I bathe her outside on the deck with jugs of warm water, obviously I don't want her to get sick %26amp; only do this in the warm weather.

Last winter I could only bathe her a couple times %26amp; this isn't enough.Could anyone recommend a good dry dog shampoo, something under $10 that I could find at a store like Walmart?
I use Colgate Men's Shaving Foam..just the old fashioned original one..Come is a few different fragrances, and does a great job, unless your dogs hair is extremely long..

Just rub the foam into his coat, and wipe it well with a towel..dries quickly, leaves coat soft and sweet smelling, and dogs don't seem to mind it..The emollients are actually good for the skin and coat.Could anyone recommend a good dry dog shampoo, something under $10 that I could find at a store like Walmart?
Joy dish soap works wonders also for fleas.
i know this is going to sound weird but you could use oatmeal and but it on her than brush it out it would take the drit out of her coat.or cornstrach
Petsmart and Petco sell a dry shampoo called Miracle Coat. Its in a black bottle with a pink kangaroo on it. Its ok to use. I've used their dry shampoo for cats.

I doubt Walmart sells it. They may have a dry shampoo, but it is probably a Hartz product...DONT use that junk on your dog!
I use regular head %26amp;shoulders people shampoo....fleas hate it!
