Are animal products tested on animals? I have dog shampoo. How'd the company test it for quality? weird.?

So, cruelty is defined by testing products on animals (i'm not part of peta). It seems to usually be human products on them, like a sad monkey smoking cigarettes or a pink hippo on roller skates. But what about animal products on animals? like this dog shampoo I just bought. Or Kibble for christ sake?

Do these companies test their dog products on dogs to see if dogs like them? Are animal products tested on animals? I have dog shampoo. How'd the company test it for quality? weird.?
I use a dog shampoo tested on humans...no joke...it says it on the bottle.

Shampoos and such are usually made of ingredients that are already known to be safe (often from testing done years ago). There is little animal testing done of cosmetic products for either animals or humans anymore.

Dogs are fed dog food in what is called palatability studies - to make sure they like the food. Many of these are done in home environments nowadays, or the dogs are kept for a short time before being adopted out.

New pharmeceutical products (for both animals and humans) are still tested on animals prior to FDA approval.
They don't test them to see if they like them, they test them to see if they'll do any damage. To be perfectly frank, dog shampoos probably get rubbed in dog's eyes and fed down their throats before they can be marketed. Unfortunately, the safety of any product has to be PROVED - and any contraindications have to be discovered.

This goes for any animal or human medicine, accessory or cosmetic unless otherwise stated.

Yes, products are tested on animals. There humane harmless tests and there are inhumane methods.

One humane method is to simply give pet owners some food to take home and then simply have the pet owner answer questions about whether or not the pet seems to like the food and report observations about the pet's health, activity level and weight as the pet goes through their regular activities.

Cruel testing goes on when a company keeps animals locked up in cages and does ghastly experiments.

A few years ago, it was discovered that Iams was doing some very cruel and inhumane testing. For more information go to:

The inhumane testing is totally unnecessary because there are ways to test the nutritional content and quality of products in a laboratory and then do voluntary palatability testing that does not involve animals spending their entire life in a miserable existence in a cage.
of course they also test to see how much exposure to chemicals they can take they even starve them and feed them insufficient diets to test the results of malnutrition at least they use to before they found the answers to these questions and before peta got ahold of them
They test them on humans first. The testing process of all the chemicals and everything to get the right formula are tested on humans. Once they are known to be safe for dogs, they will use them on the dogs.
