What is the best shampoo for dog dandraff?

My dog has alot of dandruff. He is part lab/part great dane. How can I cut down on this plus shedding? What is the best shampoo for dog dandraff?
There are a few things you can do. 1. Switch his food to a lamb and rice formula. That promotes a healthy skin and coat from the inside out. 2. For a limited time, till the shedding and dry skin is better purchase a product called linetone. It's an oil you put on their food that helps balance the chemicals in the body, you can also try olive oil or fish oil.

3. Use a shampoo called Tegrin. It's an actual dandruff shampoo my vet recommended for my Golden who has bad skin allergies. Don't use head and shoulders, its not the same....it's actually called Tegrin.

4. Once the shedding and dandruff have stopped to maintain a healthy skin and coat, continue to feed the lamb and rice formula. And bath your pup once a month w/ an oatmeal shampoo. It's very moisturizing and healthy. If symptoms return switch back to Tegrin.

Although your dog has short hair, talk to a groomer about the best brush to use. Brushing your dog 1-2 times a day helps to promote the natural oils in his skin to cut down on dry skin and shedding.

Good LuckWhat is the best shampoo for dog dandraff?
If the dandruff is bad a vet can perscribe a natural oatmeal bath that is better then what they have at the stores. I did this for my dog... however it's going to run you around $11 per bottle.
Try Tea Tree Oil, Salicylic Acid, Benzoil Peroxide, or Coal Tar.

Tea Tree Oil and Coal Tar can be found at any petstore, you may need to order online through a kennel supplier like Pet Edge (www.petedge.com) to get the other two. A lot of people will suggest oatmeal, but that really doesn't help with bad dandruff, oatmeal is mostly soothing against itchiness caused by mild dry skin and/or allergies. A good moisturizing conditioner after the shampoo will help also.

If the dog has dry skin and shedding, you may also look at food as being the culprit; poor quality food = poor coat and skin. Good foods: Artemis, Wellness, Innova Evo (the best by far), Orijen, Canidae, Chicken Soup, Solid Gold. BAD foods: Pedigree, Purina, Beneful, Pro Plan, Alpo, Science Diet, anything from a grocery store or Petsmart type store.

Lastly, you can find food additives for skin and coat (Lipiderm is the brand I use) but there are many others, they all contain fish oils and fatty acids to help reduce shedding and dry skin. However, I suggest you use these in combination with a good food, not to replace a good food.
