TaCan anyone recomend a dog shampoo that doesn't make them go all flaky?
ok any dog shampoo works just remember dogs are like humans we all have oil in our bodies. I have a problem giving my dogs a bath more then they need but i have to have clean dogs and i do i have 4 dachshunds. So the vet said we you take out the oil (from the bath) just remember to replace it. So i put a bit of baby oil in bath water and when all done a small amount in palm and i rub hands together and rub all over the dog. It makes their coat beautiful and shiney. Or put a few drops of veggie oil in their food. ThanksCan anyone recomend a dog shampoo that doesn't make them go all flaky?
skin disorders in dogs. One of the most common form of eczema is atopic dermatitis. The symptoms of eczema may vary from dog to dog. Common for eczema in dogs is a red itchy scalp. Another eczema symptom is a dry skin with scaly skin rashes. In other dogs small bumps occur that become moist and oozing.

It appears that the cause of eczema is an abnormal response of the dogs immune system. Eczema is not contagious. Dogs with eczema'; eczema are prone to develop yeast infections.

Causes of eczema in dogseczema:

Industrial chemicals, detergents, fumes, paints, bleach, acidic foods, alcohol-containing skin care products and grooming fragrances

Allergens that increase eczema:

animal or vegetable proteins from commercial dog foods (food allergy), pollens

Stress, boredom, and loneliness cause itching and eczema

Extreme changes of the temperature:

Bringing your dog into an air-conditioned room after he was outside all day is stressful. Dogs cannot rapidly compensate this change. Better is clipping the dog down

]Eczema treatment:Boost the dogs immune system

Soak or compress the eczema area with potassium permanganate.

Add Neem leaf tea, and evening primrose oil to the dog food until the eczema disappears.

Apply Neem oil to the dogs skin after bathing to decrease the itching skin rashes.

Bathing the dog with shampoo only if realy necessary. In most cases, the eczema will disappear very soon.

You can use oilatum an emoilant wash available from your chemist or even ASDA this will stop the itching.

We also use polytar shampoo to soothe the skin and emove the particles causing the irritation.

Look for a soap free dog shampoo. It won't strip the oils off the coat. Also the dog food you're feeding is just as important. If it isn't a premium brand it may be the reason for dry skin. Also don't bathe your dogs unless necessary. Frequent bathing can dry the skin.
If you don't bath them too much and they're on a really good quality food, then you need to fix the problem from the inside. Give them either vegetable oil on their food daily, or better yet, a salmon oil capsule. You'll notice a huge difference in both skin and coat within a couple of weeks.
Don't use the dog shampoos - too harsh. Baby shampoos are best. Also give them cod liver oil in food (from pet shop)
You could be bathing them too often. They should only be bathed once a month or less if possible. It can also be due to diet.. What do you feed? I would suggest Lassie natural way (found at www.lassie.com/naturalway), Natural Balance, Innova Dog, Soild Gold, Timber Wolf, Chicken Soup For the Dog lovers soul Or Diamond Naturals lamb and rice. As far as shampoo I would suggest a top quality baby shampoo with milk added or something with oat meal in it.
For just cleaning-not flea control or anything, I use Johnson's and Johnson's baby shampoo.
do not bath them more twice a month. it could be drying out the skin use a medicated shampoo if need. i use one that is called First Aid.
oatmeal shampoo or medicated shampoo
The best thing I have found for doggy dry skin is used AFTER the bath. Start with the shampoo you or the dog likes best, yes oatmeal is usually preferable. But, immediately following the rinsing, while they are still relatively wet, take a solution of 1 part Avon Skin So Soft bath oil to 4 or 5 parts warm water. Pour over the dog slowly and rub the solution into it's fur. Yes, they'll smell like a flower (lol) but it really does work great. And, it's completely safe for dogs or cats. It's also a wonderful bug and flea / tick deterrant.

Just make sure you don't use the SSS that has sunscreen in it!

Namaste
Use Fairy Liquid. inexpensive and leaves their skin healthy and coats shinny.
Oatmeal shampoos are best for dogs that have sensitive skin. Sometimes dogs have extreme issues and the vet can prescribe a medicated shampoo. Also, dont wash your dog more than once a week, it's bad for their skin. I usually try for 2-3weeks.
i have 3 dogs, one 9 yr old, a 2 yr old and a 5month old. i use baby shampoo on my oldest and youngest because my oldest has bad skin and the PH in dog shampoo is to high for my oldest and youngest, i suggest you use baby shampoo xx
don't overbath them and when you do bathe them RINSE RINSE RINSE ,,,,,, put the on a high qualtiy dog food ( timberwolf, Canidae etc) and brush them daily
A bunch of people will tell you it is the food that you feeding them. Mean while it is the Shampoo that you asking about. Just had to say it before hand.

Hey I use Selson Blue on my dog when he gets like that. Its the cheapest and it works. You can go crazy looking for dog shampoos that do the same. As you know its just the time of season.
I've used Oatmeal shampoo on my MinPin who has really flaky, dry skin. It worked well, seemed to be moisturizing.
Did you make sure that the shampoo was out properly,

if your other dog is fine then perhaps the two with flaky skin are allergic to the shampoo, go and ask your vets advice..
Try using johnsons baby shampoo i have used it for over 20 years on my staffy`s / great danes / bull mastiff`s / german shepherd`s and had no problem`s whatsoever !
well my dog has bad skin and i use baby shampoo

it has worked a treat for me as i used to spend that much at the vets for their drops of stuff to clear it up but only worked for a while so i was told to use baby shampoo hope that helps your dogs,

as mine is OK now x
You may not believe this but I use Dawn dish soap on our four Jack Russells. It kills fleas and won't dry out the skin. Give it a try. The safest stuff I have found yet!
Do dogs need baths? Mine only get them if they've rolled in fox poo or some other pungent smelly stuff, and they just smell like dog, which is nice, especially wet dog, one of my favourite smells. Flaky skin probably a symptom of unnecessary bathing.
oatmil its the best for skin and nice hair good luck
Neem shampoo is really good so is Shirley's stay fresh - after I've rinsed them I put a few drops of vinegar in a jug of warm water to rinse again with - leave on a few seconds then rinse off with just water, this really works and leaves the coat nice and shiny :-)
do you mean a bull terrier or a pit? if a pit then get lost you moron.
Earthbath Orange Peel soap is what I use on my JRT and Chi. The Chi tends to be really flakey, so aside from the soap/shampoo, we also add Salmon Oil to her diet to help her maintain a healthy coat.
My cocker spaniel gets human shampoo, she's got a lovely golden fluffy coat and gorgeous skin. I use timotei golden highlights on her, it works beautifully, but dunno what it would be like on your dogs. But she only gets a bath about once every 2 months.
I find Bob Martin pet products are good. But you really shouldn't bath them too often as it washes the natural oils out of the coat and dries their skin. They will also get wetter when it rains as they don't have the natural water repellant that the oils provide.

When you do bath them rinse them really well until the water runs clear and then a little more, towel dry them really really well and then leave to air dry. A hairdryer will also dry their skin. You could also check with your vet as some breeds are prone to dry skin (My friend has West Highland Terriers that get flaky skin.) He may advise on a medicated shampoo. Hope this helps.
Milk Bath Shampoo
Oatmeal shampoo is what I use on my pug and bullmastiff
I was told that the best thing to use is baby shampoo.
