I think my dog is allergic to dog shampoo what should I do?

My dog is a Toy Fox Terrier and i think shes allergic to dog shampoo because everytime I bath her with dog shampoo she gets really bad rashes and this isnt just with one brand i have tried with several others. So what should I wash her with that also helps keep fleas away and still has a good smell?I think my dog is allergic to dog shampoo what should I do?
I have 2 small dog, and I had that problem to, So I talked to a friend that deals with dog and other animals and he told me to bath them in DAWN dish soap. So I did and now I have no flees or tick's on them. It make there coat shine and they don't get sick from the pet shampoo's. And it works to. That is the only thing that I will bath my animals in now. It cheep and you use it to do dishes in. So if it get the dishes clean then it will clean you animals and it won't hurt them. sandy_buckieI think my dog is allergic to dog shampoo what should I do?
How often are you bathing her? Once a week is too much for a dog. You should try using an oatmeal base shampoo for dogs and see about adding some omega 3 supplements to her diet. Make sure you are getting her rinsed well of all shampoo residue. That would also cause irritation. Also try using one of the spot on products for fleas such as Advantage or Frontline. Then you won't be using those harsh shampoos as often.

Oh and by the way get a good conditioner to go with that shampoo. That will also help to moisturize the skin. I think your dog just has really dry skin from over stripping the natural oils in her skin...Do not use human shampoos on a dog. They are not formulated for use on animals and can cause a reaction...
it could be several things causing the problem. the flea shampoo could be too harsh(they are very strong) you may be bathing her too often. once every four to six weeks is the norm. try a hypoallergenic oatmeal or a medicated shampoo. make sure you rinse a lot. the more you rinse the better it is for her.
Baby shampoo, but you will have to consult vet for flea problems.
well try using 2 different things. something like a flea collar or ointment for the fleas and try baby shampoo for replacng the doggy shampoo.
try using baby shampoo, it is soft on the skin and should not irritate it, and about the fleas you might need to get a flea guard collar or something similar.
Try dawn dish soap
go to a vet or petco and see if they have any better recommencations. or maybe true hypo-allergenic
get a new shampoo may be

hope i could help!!!!!!!1
go tot he vet and get advise from them. uf you cant get to the vet b4 the next time your dog needs a bath use regular human shampoo and conditioner and try frontline flee and tick or k9 advantix.
I would try an organic shampoo.

Check out this website. You may be able to find something here.

use baby shampoo and get something else for fleas. You vet is the best place to get flea control ;- )
Try baby shampoo. That is what my dog's groomer uses when she gives dogs baths. However, it probably won't help with the fleas.
Try a different brand.
Is she an inside dog? If so take her away for a weekend and have someone kill the fleas in the house and yard. Get her a bath at the groomer before you bring her back. Then don't let her be around dogs with fleas after that.

That is what have done with all my dogs. No fleas no flea problems.
I use pet promise on my chi because he is allergic to chemiicals. Thats all i can use

They have a website www.petpromiseinc.com
If you're bathing too often rashes could occur. At the most I would recommend bathing once a week. If that doesn't work then I would recommend trying a hypoallergenic shampoo. The one I use smells like coconut and it's made by GlenHaven. Don't use regular human shampoos as the chemicals are too harsh. Also, flea shampoos don't prevent against fleas, so you should use a topical flea preventative like Advantix which does fleas and ticks. If the rashes don't resolve with the use of hypoallergenic shampoos then i recommend seeing a vet as it could be something systemic and may require an antibiotic or some type anti-inflammatory medicine.
could b u r bathing her 2 often. makes her skin dry %26amp; itchy. if it is the shampoo, dawn dish det. works wonders r killing fleas %26amp; they also have some that smells really good. try that %26amp; see what happens.
Try finding a natural shampoo. We use Earthbath shampoo (the Oatmeal and Aloe variety) on our dog (English Bulldog) and she does not have bad reactions to the shampoo any longer. It is a flea shampoo, but not harsh like the others. They also have conditioners for the different varieties of shampoos as well. Also, try using Frontline Plus on your dog to help keep fleas away. We tried the flea collar on our dog and she had the worse skin reaction ever (red rash all around her neck and under her chin - horrible).

Good luck.
I use Johnson's Baby Shampoo!! Try that! But, my dog's groomers uses oatmeal baths..so try that too!
If you are using a flea shampoo, I would switch to a sensitive skin formula without flea medication in it (your vet or a local groomer should be able to recommend one). The flea meds that are available over the counter are older technology than what is prescribed in veterinary offices. Often the reason new meds were developed was for precisely the reaction your dog has. A topical flea product (Advantix, Advantage, Frontline...) or an oral product (Capstar, Sentinel...) could protect her from fleas as well as other parasites/bugs (depending on the product). These products are usually less severe on the skin. If she's having a reaction to just the shampoo, I would still recommend switching shampoos, but I would bring a few of the bottles in to the vet or groomer to see if they have something without the active ingredient of those. I am a big fan of the DVM products, but there are many gentle shampoos on the market specifically designed for sensitive dogs.
You should probly go to the vet about that. I'm sure they could tell you if she is allergic. If it turns out she is they could probly give you something to help get rid of the rashes ora subbstitution for the shampoo.

GOOD LUCK HOPE SHE GETS BETTER:)
Smile!!
there are hypoallergenic shampoos for dogs. maybe not in a pet store but in a vet clinic. shampoos are not really the best for fleas any way you should get a topical medication like revolution or advantage if you are worried about fleas.
Use a gentler shampoo- if you're bathing her with flea shampoo all the time, it's not allergies, it's just the fact that flea shampoo is meant to be an emergency remedy, not a preventative. The second the shampoo comes off the dog, it stops protecting. If you want flea protection, you need to use Frontline or Advantix from your vet.

Try buying oatmeal or puppy dog shampoo, and make sure you read the bottle to see if you're supposed to dilute it or use full strength. Most puppy shampoos have very clean pleasant scents. I would not bathe her more than once every 2 weeks, unless she gets really dirty, once a month is better for terriers. And no more flea shampoo unless she actually gets fleas! Talk to your vet about Advantix or Frontline.
