We have a shih tsu dog with a rash our groomer discovered? She said it was from a chemical in a dog shampoo?

What is this rash? The groomer said to switch shampoos and it would go away with time. So we did, and it's slowly going away. We got him from the pound and he didn't have the rash when we first got him. 2 days ago he had his second visit to the groomers and most of the rash was gone, except she discovered a large sore under his chin. What is this? Can it be from a chemical in Hertz Dog Shampoo? We have a shih tsu dog with a rash our groomer discovered? She said it was from a chemical in a dog shampoo?
It could be a chemical in the shampoo, it could be a food allergy or any other allergic reaction to something. You first described this as a rash, now you say it is a large sore. The rash may be related to the sore, or it could be something entirely different. Personally I would take him to the vet to see what it may or may not be.We have a shih tsu dog with a rash our groomer discovered? She said it was from a chemical in a dog shampoo?
The dark side of Dog shampoo ingredients is when they consist of things like fragrances, deodorants, colors and other unnatural additives. These ingredients can quickly cause irritation and should be avoided in dog shampoo. A hypoallergenic dog shampoo should not contain any unnatural substances as mentioned above. You may have to pay a little more for quality but it鈥檚 definitely worth it!

There are some natural Dog shampoo ingredients that are quite effective. These include aloe vera, tea tree oil and citrus and eucalyptus extracts. Beware though, some of these can cause irritation despite the fact they are all natural as they are potential allergens.

As a rule of thumb I dont use anything that contains sodium lauryl/ laureth sulfate or aluminum lauryl/ laureth sulfate. If you look around the web you'll find its in everything. I avoid it like the crazy. Its in everything we use and I wouldn't be surprised if it was in dog shampoo too.

I suggest going USDA certified organic.
Your best and safest bet is to take your dog to the doctor. You need a proper diagnosis. If it is something worse you will end up paying far more money if you don't deal with it now. This breed is notorious for having skin allergies. The vet can run a test and tell you everything he is allergic to so you know what to avoid with him. Saves much money in vet bills in the future.
it chould be from the Hartz.. Hartz is a terrible product to use.. many animals have had severe reactions and even died after using hartz products.

It could also be an allergic reaction to something else, or even some other skin irritation or infection, best to have the vet examine it.
Could be the shampoo but my dog has the same problem, hers is diet we have just about eliminated everything else.Same breed 8 years old just started this past year.Good luck finding the cause. My vet doesn't know for sure but that's his guess.
These are questions for a vet. It sounds like a simple allergic reaction. Dogs are just like people. Some of them have sensitive skin just like some of us do. The sore is probably for constant scratching but he needs to see a vet.
sounds like something you should ask your vet, not your groomer.
